FretBender

Read 17 Reviews   |   Write a Review

If you bend 21 frets by hand, at a reasonable 45 seconds each, that's 16 minutes. The FretBender will perfectly radius those frets, in three 24" lengths, in just 16 SECONDS!

The FretBender is our variation of an idea by repairman Randy Stockwell. It eliminates tedious, inaccurate hand-bending of fretwire and gives much better results on arched fretboards. Simply insert the inverted wire, turn the crank, and the wire emerges with a constant curvature.

Instructions
The sturdy FretBender is 7" (177.80mm) tall and can be bolted to your workbench. The groove in its smooth-turning guide roller accepts large or small fretwire tang sizes. The wire advances on two precision needle-bearing rollers, with cam adjustment for any required fretboard radius. The FretBender is a super-tool that makes fretting faster, more precise, and more efficient.

Stainless fretwire and fretting tools
While stainless steel fretwire is definitely harder than the traditional nickel-silver, stainless wire does not cause premature wear of our files, cutters, and abrasives. All of our fretting tools are suitable for use on stainless steel wire except for the Fret Tang Nippers.

It's great but,...

This works fine. But guys, you can make one out of sliding door hardware and washers.

Good product

Works well, as advertised. Would be great if there was some sort of scale or indicator on it to tell you roughly what radius you are bending to. Takes a little trial and error to get that set right, but no big deal, if the wire doesn't have enough bend just run it through again.

Works exactly as it should!

I bought all my fret wire pre bent off eBay prior to owning this tool. This tool saves money after just a couple of uses. Very good product!

One more thing

The fret bender is a fine tool as are all of the tools from Stewmac. However, I would like to see this tool able to straighten fretwire as other manufacturers do. Either that or add a notched gauge for common radius sizes.
The fret bender is easy to use and works like a charm, made to last forever. I would also like to see an optional mounting stand for this bender.

Great Tool

I've been looking at this for a while now, but you can only bend so much fretwire by hand. It works wonderfully, but man it's pricey.

Essential tool.

So easy to use, start with a little curve then check it against the fingerboard, then tighten the cure and bend again as need. Was able to get very close to the fingerboard radius on my first ever attempt. Takes the guesswork out of bending frets.

Fret bender

Works quick.

It seems like its only uni directional. I know it says so in the instructions but it should be safe to turn the other way....Im a lefty. Anyway, its not. I turned mine the opposite way with NO fret wire in it and it started grinding. Not sure what happened but took it apart and cleaned out some metal shavings and reassmebled. Its good to go again but I wont turn it counter clockwise again. Lefties make sure to use this righty.

As for complaints about finding the correct radius. Its imposible to mark where each radius would be due to the many different types of fretwire available. Jumbo fretwire might make a 12 inch radius with a certain setting. Use that same setting for narrow low fretwire and you'll end up with a different radius all together.

I think that it works great though. Too pricey but when you don't have time to make, you buy. So I bought one.

I think I'll get a couple more and then I can have them set to certain radius's and certain fretwire.

After all, in this game you have to save time to make money. This is a big time saver.
