Thicknessing Caliper

As someone who works in metric sizes I am very pleased with Stewmac's latest addition to their measuring instruments. Measuring in small sizes is easier for me in millimetres rather than thous and decimal inches. But I suppose it is what you are used to. The instrument is light easy to use and looks an item of proper quality

Thickness calipers...

A tool that you wonder how you managed without it, half the price of similar calipers in the U.K, accuracy is the key in this game, so another must have item for the toolkit..

Delighted

My Thickness Caliper has proved invaluable and extremely accurate in preparing my Soundboards and backs so much so that I have no hesitation in recommending this unit.

Great Value

I find the thought of thicknessing tops to exacting standards rather intimidating when I'm carving a mandolin. I decided to try out this caliper and I'm very glad I did. Easy to use, very accurate and very well made. My recent mando now has a monster top because I was able to carve the graduated top accurately. I highly recommend this tool to any Luthier.

Accuracy and value

Having been commissioned to build a custom copy of CF Martin's 1932, C3 archtop guitar for a USA client, and finding that the homemade caliper I'd used for years was no longer functional, I decided to make this purchase. Turned out to be one of my best buys in recent times. Apart from being quick and easy to read, the accuracy of thickness I was able to achieve left me wondering how I'd managed without this tool for so long.

The carved Adirondack top really looks and sounds the business thanks to Stewmac's thicknessing caliper. Outstanding value for money.

Thickness Caliper

First class delivery service well protected, the caliper is of excellent quality, I'm currently building a Macafferi and finding the caliper indispensible.

The small metal ball:-(

I would prefer having a flat disc instead of a small metal ball as the contact surface on the dial indicator. The small metal ball snags in softer wood grain.

Much more doing the job.

I have constructed my own calipers for measuring thickness from top, etc. But recently I decided to buy one from StewMac. I’m glad I did, for this beauty is so much more doing the job. The photo shows the top of my recent project; it’s thickness is exactly 3mm.
