building rather than repair.

If you think you're gonna end up with a book about repair than it's a bit of a disappointment. But for building it's fine. I have to quickly add that books about real repairs are very very expensive though!!!!

Not so good.

Lots of pictures. But who needs pictures unless you don't have an instrument or bow laying in front of you. Explanations and procedures are minimal at best. An expert wouldn't have any use for this book and a novice wouldn't gain much insight.

A Good Start

This book offers a good starting point for the one interested in small violin repairs and bow rehair. You can find useful info on setting up the pegs and peg-holes, fitting the bridge, properly set the string distance. Not bad at all!
And there is an appendix ( with pictures)on tools, well the basics tools you need for these small repairs. For the $ it costs it offers plenty!
And i was surprised to get this item in just 10 days. For shipment over seas via regular shipping this is certainly THE fastest on yet!

Good basic book for basic repairs and adjustments.

The book provides simple pictures with basic information. I found the book very useful to complement the instructions for the fiddle kit as it gave more details. The book is useful for things like dealing with the soundpost, fitting a bridge, re-haring a bow, etc. If you are looking for a more detailed book covering repairing cracks, varnish, or more advanced care, then this is not the book. Overall, I found it very useful for the beginner which I am.
