Specs
Golden Age tuners are the rebirth of popular early 20th Century tuning machine designs, featuring simple steel plates and open gears. Replacements for the originals have long been sought by collectors and repairmen, to restore older guitars and improve their tuning. They add an authentic look to reproduction guitars.

15:1 gear ratio for improved tuning
Vintage style riveted worm posts
Original-shape matte cream or matte black plastic knobs
.234" (5.94mm) string post diameter
Press-fit peghead bushings
Original mounting screw spacing (screws incuded)
1-3/8" (34.93mm) string post spacing
Relic nickel finish

Also available to fit slotted pegheads.

Note: Plate-mounted tuners can't work efficiently if the pegholes are improperly aligned. Our Tuner Drill Jig ensures the correct spacing for accurate tuning.

"The Golden Age Restoration tuners are really great. I have just put them onto my 1929 Gibson L-1...I like the fact that someone went to the trouble of making them look right." —John Evans, Brussels Belgium

"Great tuners with the right look and feel! The only thing different about them is that they are better made and more functional." —Richard Barnes, Pomona CA

To be sure these tuners fit your instrument, compare your existing machines and peghole dimensions to our listed specs to help determine the best replacement.

Great tuners

This is the second set of these that I have put on guitars. None of my customers can even tell the difference between the originals!

Couldn't be better

Absolutely authentic, except they're made better than the originals. I use these as my standard tuner on the Gibson L-0 and L-1 copies that I make and I rarely get a request to substitute anything else. I've used 15 or 20 sets and never had a problem.

Great improvement over the stock tuners I had on my Harmony. Worth the investment.

Great tuners!

I have put 2 sets of these tuners on old guitars, a Kay and a Silvertone. They fit the holes fine, although the screwholes don't line up.

They add a nice vintage look to restorations and definitely work better than the originals!

Perfect

I bought these tuners for a late 30's Silvertone Archtop. They fit perfectly, and even the screw holes matched up. They look like they came on the guitar from the factory. Also work much better and hold tune much better than originals. It's about time someone came up with this type of item.

Awesome Tuners!

I bought these tuners awhile back and I must say I was very impressed! I have an old funky Checkmate acoustic guitar that needed new tuners as one of the knobs broke off and couldn't be fixed. These tuners not only fit perfect but they looked better than the originals and really fit the age of this old guitar. Thanks Stewart-MacDonald for selling such a great product.

Vintage style tuners

I searched high and low for a tuner that would at least come close to the ones used on old Weissenborns, Konas, Hilos, Knutsens etc. In my opinion these are it and at a reasonable cost.

Restoration tuners

I stumbled across a very early Harmony guitar at a flea market that was destined to be just another wall decoration. It was falling apart and someone over the years had replaced the original tuners with whatever they could find.

One horizontal set on one side and verticals on the other and completely worn out. After using several of your Trade Secret tips I was able to re glue the body and loose braces. The neck was straight but the frets were worn down to the board. So I jacked up the nut and turned it into an acoustic slide guitar. I installed a set of your vertical restoration tuners with cream buttons. Now the guitar not only looks period correct but stays in tune too!

Thanks for helping me make a $10 dollar flea market find into a great slide player.

Flawless vintage looks, sweet tuning response!

Popped these on my Harmony Monterey so i could rely on it to gig out and the tuning stability, the smoothe feel and timely response tuning up is phenomenal. You want to keep that vintage butterbean look but you need her to stay in tune and behave. These will get you all the way there. I paid $80 for a decent set of original vintage ones for my stella, and i wish i knew about these then. The look remains unchanged. Just a reminder make sure your bridge slots and nut slots are frendly, smoothe places for your stings to stretch and slide across. A little graphite paste goes a long way! Major cause of tuning stability issues is sticky nuts and bridges!

Golden Age Tuners

I used the golden age tuners on a 1926 Gibson L-1. The cream colored buttons are a believable color and the construction of the worm gear brackets are equally authentic. The smoothness is good- probably as good as any of the originals.
The plate aging is dull enough to suggest some age. Those who looked at the completed guitar never remarked that the tuners were modern replacements. I consider that the ultimate test.
