These machines do it all:
Tuning
Locking
String cutting
Insert the string and tighten the thumbscrew clamp at the base of the gear housing; the patent-pending design cuts off the excess string automatically as you tune it.

The string is clamped securely, without multiple wraps around the string post, for faster string changes. 18:1 gearing ensures smooth and precise tuning.

Sets of 6, with mounting screws, peghead hex nuts and washers included. 10mm (13/32")-diameter pegholes required.

To be sure these tuners fit your instrument, compare your existing machines and peghole dimensions to our listed specs to help determine the best replacement.

great, innovative tuners, but not perfect

I agree mostly with all the previous positive reviews.
I had no problem installing these on my Hagstrom XL-2 guitar and they works just as promised.
However, since I drop tune my guitar with thicker strings (11-56), the lowest string was extremely difficult to cut. (almost broke my finger off!)
I originally wanted to install super thick strings (13-68) on this particular guitar but I can see that's not going to happen.
Other than the issue with very heavy gauge strings, these work fabulously.

They rules

I use them on three guitars, and I've to said that they're easy to install, easy to change string, easy to tune also for Drop-D or Open Tuning, and of course they stay in tune. Don't hesitate, use it, they rules...

Excellent - If you pay attention

These tuners are great! You can lock the strings in place with no extra string to tear at your gig bag or poke your fingers. An earlier reviewer mentioned 'short pins'. While that may be the case with his set of tuners, the problem might also be that you have to make sure that the strings are actually seated on top of the locking posts and not to the side of them. This is easy enough to accomplish with a little practice. I also haven't had a problem with the cutters not being able to cut thick strings (I use Ernie Ball 'Skinny Top Heavy Bottom strings).
As long as you read the instructions that come with the tuners, and you halfway pay attention to the process, you should have no problems. My only complaint is that the 'low E' tuner was a bit difficult to attach securely to the headstock. The threaded section was just barely long enough to attach the nut onto. It could have been due to the design of my guitar's headstock (Parker PM20 6-inline). I don't think that a Strat or Tele would have any problems with that. In short, for the money, these are some of the finest tuners available to the attentive guitarist.

The Worst Tuners I've Ever Seen!

There is no way I am putting these things in my guitar. They feel and look poorly made. I have one guitar with Sperzels and one with Grovers. Either one is better by a long shot. Don't waste your money.

the best tuners for some prototypes

Until a long time, in my workshop, i was looking for a special tuner for my specials stainless steel's prototypes, without making it !
So i found the planet waves in the Stew-Mac site.
And they matched it, "like amazing".
Thanks boys !

the only tuners to buy

These tuners are THE BEST I have ever used. I cannot overstate this point. I will put these tuners on every guitar I buy from now on.

There are a lot of locking tuners out there but these have a very well constructed and designed feel to them. The auto trim feature means I no longer need wire cutters to change the strings. Changing strings goes faster than it ever has with these tuners. They don't slip and they hold tune longer than any tuner I have ever used.

The best part about these tuners is the high gear ratio, 18:1. These tuners give you high precision tuning. Even on old stretched out strings it's still easy to get and keep your guitar in tune.

pins too short

my locking tuners have too short pins. So I can easily pull out the e- and b-string with two fingers.
Tuning up these two strings are pulled out.
This is only the case with the 6-in-line, my 3L/3R are ok.
