The traditional 3-piece Fairbanks tone ring design from the late 1800s gives a clear, rich old-time sound for open-back banjo. It consists of a round steel tone hoop resting on a scalloped brass ring, held in place by a thin spun-brass outer sleeve. 11" (279.40mm) diameter, nickel-plated.
A high crown or medium crown banjo head is usually required for this tone ring.
