I bought the black one to replace a stock chrome part. Considering the upcharge, I though the finish was pretty poor - flat, thin, and uneven. Right out of the package there were spots I could see through. The edges are also less polished than on the stock part, giving it a slightly cheap look. Not bad, not great.

I bought a chrome jackplate and it is not as bright as the original, from Fender. So I kept the old one in my guitar without doing any replace.
