Razor Files

About This Item

Super sharp and super efficient!
Imagine putting hundreds of little razor-sharp planes to work while you're shaping an instrument neck.

They're the sharpest fine-cut woodworking files we've ever used. They cut quickly and aggressively, but leave the wood surprisingly smooth. You'll discover they're real time-savers for shaping solidbodies, custom jigs and clamping cauls too.

A new manufacturing process is the key to Razor File efficiency. Rows of semi-circular plane-like teeth are chemically etched to extreme sharpness, and diagonal grooves are milled at strategic intervals to minimize clogging. Available flat or curved, each steel Razor File has "safe" smooth sides (the flat file cuts on both faces). Early samples of these files were quickly snapped up by our R&D guys for testing in their own shops, and they immediately loved them.

Large and tapered files include easy-grip contoured handle for safe, comfortable use. Threads inside the handle grip the file tang securely. Handle length: 3-5/8" (92.07mm)

Large files remove a lot of wood fast. Use them for roughing-in neck blanks or embarking on that solidbody guitar project. Includes easy-grip contoured handle for safe, comfortable use. Threads inside the handle grip the file tang securely.
Cutting surface: 7" x 3/4" (1800mm x 19mm)
Overall length including handle: 12-1/4" (310mm)

Tapered files offer a bit more versatility than the large files. Use them when shaping a volute on an acoustic guitar neck, blending in curves, or working on tricky spots like the horn of a solidbody guitar. Includes easy-grip contoured handle for safe, comfortable use. Threads inside the handle grip the file tang securely.
Cutting surface: 7" (180mm)
Tapers from 3/4" to 5/32" (19mm to 4mm)
Overall length including handle: 12-1/4" (310mm)

Small files are for more detailed shaping work: tight contours, corners and smaller surfaces. The handle is rubber-coated for comfort.
Cutting surface: 3-7/8" x 3/8" (98mm x 10mm)
Overall length: 7-7/8" (200mm)

Great for heel shaping

By

I just used the round tapered file to shape a heel and cap. This file is amazingly sharp and made short work of making a comfortable heel and matching rosewood cap. I have other files but these are really sharp and take off a lot of material with little effort. Thanks.

Amazing!

I have never used a razor file before and I was blown away by how well these work. Razor is an apt name. They cut like razors! I got the two small files and a large flat file. I'm impressed with how easy they are to use, in that with light pressure they still cut smoothly and with heavy pressure they REALLY cut deep and smoothly. I was skeptical of the price, but these are so worth the cost. They are valuable tools!

works as advertised. good for shaping and cleaning up stuff with curves, like necks. The bigger one would probably be useful with a larger radius....if you do a lot of this

Make the dull razor file sharp

By

I love these files, probably in the top ten best things to buy on this site. The way they works like a rasp and the same time glides over hard cellulose lacquer without a scratch is great!

The only drawback is that they will get dull after some use (as any other sharp tool). Not anymore. I put the dulled file in a 30% hydrochloric acid solution and let it "cook" over night (about 10 hours) and the file will be sharp again! Beware of the acid, use plastic gloves and goggles too for safety. Put the file in a bicarbonate solution straight from the acid bath to neutralize the acid, make it dry and put some oil on it. File away :-)

small razor file

I can't say enough about this handy tool. It has replaced my go-to flat bastard file for roughing out wood and especially bone. The bone shreds away and it actually leaves a chaterless finish. It saves time and does a better job than any other file that I've owned.

This file is everything it says it is.

I will be buying all the other sizes and shapes.

The files worked better then I expected. They cut off a good amount of wood without leaving deep ruts like many rasps do.

Very nice tools

I really like these "files". However file isn't the best word to describe them- more like 1000 tiny and sharp block planes that cut to a nice finish. Great for heel work and the neck to headstock transition etc.

Fantastic for flat surfaces!

This levels and cut near as smooth as a quality vintage hand plane!.....easily out performs a rasp for final fitting in flat surfaces that need to be either married to other flat surfaces, or to be prepped for final sanding.
I only wish I had bought this years ago, I always saw it and thought "my rasp can do so I don't need it"...but I got one and boy was I wrong. When you use this Razor file it keeps your cutting surface level, if you push just right and strait it even will cut away its own scratches upon your final stroke!!!
I have a lot of flat surfaces on my guitars, I added a photo, but even custom guitars with rounded shapes will use this often, anywhere something flat meets something else flat, this tool is for you!....such a life saver and well worth the money, You will use this daily!
