Razor Files

About This Item

Super sharp and super efficient!
Imagine putting hundreds of little razor-sharp planes to work while you're shaping an instrument neck.

They're the sharpest fine-cut woodworking files we've ever used. They cut quickly and aggressively, but leave the wood surprisingly smooth. You'll discover they're real time-savers for shaping solidbodies, custom jigs and clamping cauls too.

A new manufacturing process is the key to Razor File efficiency. Rows of semi-circular plane-like teeth are chemically etched to extreme sharpness, and diagonal grooves are milled at strategic intervals to minimize clogging. Available flat or curved, each steel Razor File has "safe" smooth sides (the flat file cuts on both faces). Early samples of these files were quickly snapped up by our R&D guys for testing in their own shops, and they immediately loved them.

Large and tapered files include easy-grip contoured handle for safe, comfortable use. Threads inside the handle grip the file tang securely. Handle length: 3-5/8" (92.07mm)

Large files remove a lot of wood fast. Use them for roughing-in neck blanks or embarking on that solidbody guitar project. Includes easy-grip contoured handle for safe, comfortable use. Threads inside the handle grip the file tang securely.
Cutting surface: 7" x 3/4" (1800mm x 19mm)
Overall length including handle: 12-1/4" (310mm)

Tapered files offer a bit more versatility than the large files. Use them when shaping a volute on an acoustic guitar neck, blending in curves, or working on tricky spots like the horn of a solidbody guitar. Includes easy-grip contoured handle for safe, comfortable use. Threads inside the handle grip the file tang securely.
Cutting surface: 7" (180mm)
Tapers from 3/4" to 5/32" (19mm to 4mm)
Overall length including handle: 12-1/4" (310mm)

Small files are for more detailed shaping work: tight contours, corners and smaller surfaces. The handle is rubber-coated for comfort.
Cutting surface: 3-7/8" x 3/8" (98mm x 10mm)
Overall length: 7-7/8" (200mm)

Razor Files

The files worked better then I expected. They cut off a good amount of wood without leaving deep ruts like many rasps do.

Very nice tools

I really like these "files". However file isn't the best word to describe them- more like 1000 tiny and sharp block planes that cut to a nice finish. Great for heel work and the neck to headstock transition etc.

Fantastic for flat surfaces!

By

This levels and cut near as smooth as a quality vintage hand plane!.....easily out performs a rasp for final fitting in flat surfaces that need to be either married to other flat surfaces, or to be prepped for final sanding.
I only wish I had bought this years ago, I always saw it and thought "my rasp can do so I don't need it"...but I got one and boy was I wrong. When you use this Razor file it keeps your cutting surface level, if you push just right and strait it even will cut away its own scratches upon your final stroke!!!
I have a lot of flat surfaces on my guitars, I added a photo, but even custom guitars with rounded shapes will use this often, anywhere something flat meets something else flat, this tool is for you!....such a life saver and well worth the money, You will use this daily!

Too coarse

By
(Customer's Reviews)

I bought this to do fairly fine shaping in close spaces such as the heel and neck curves for the cigar box guitars and strumsticks I make. The shape is great but the "teeth" are too coarse. It feels like the rasp "catches". It is a bit better but the overall feel is like the coarse teeth on a 4-tooth common rasp.

Awesome!

I have the curved and flat small razor files. I use them to carve neck heels. They are extremely sharp, leave a pretty smooth surface with light pressure and can really be aggressive bear down on them. Very impressive.

Fantastic cutting files.

These files cut better than any I have ever owned. Well worth the money in time savings.

Outstanding tools

Bought the large and small flat razor files for a custom neck heel fit. Beautiful control, removes as much wood as you want in such a smooth way. Lean in and it's aggressive, use a light touch and it's almost a razor scraper. Way better than any other files I own.

Great for neck shaping

By
(Customer's Reviews)

I bought the large flat and curved files for neck shaping. They are excellent files and I expect to be using them on all my necks from here on out. They are very sensitive to grain direction and runout which makes them difficult to control at first but after you understand what they are doing and how to best handle them they become very useful tools for neck shaping. My only caveat is the price and whether I could achieve the same results without them. Still, these are everything they are advertised to be, and well worth the money for anyone shaping necks on a regular basis.

Instant winner

By
(Customer's Reviews)

I bought the large flat and small curved and plan to buy their counterparts soon. They took a little getting used to, they cut a lot differently than a regular file. About 15 minutes on a scrap of maple and I had the hang of it. Quick cutting, and a nice smooth surface, great product, I know these are going to be the most useful tools in my file/rasp arsenal!

I like These!

By
(Customer's Reviews)

The first time I used these razor files I wasn't sure I'd like them. To me they had such a unique feel when cutting. Didn't take long to get the hang of them, though (like, a few minutes), and now they're on my everyday go-to tool rack, along with my Dragon rasp. I like 'em.
