They're the sharpest fine-cut woodworking files we've ever used. They cut quickly and aggressively, but leave the wood surprisingly smooth. You'll discover they're real time-savers for shaping solidbodies, custom jigs and clamping cauls, too.

A new manufacturing process is the key to Razor File efficiency. Rows of semi-circular plane-like teeth are chemically etched to extreme sharpness, and diagonal grooves are milled at strategic intervals to minimize clogging. Available flat or curved, each steel Razor File has "safe" smooth sides (the flat file cuts on both faces). Early samples of these files were quickly snapped up by our R&D guys for testing in their own shops, and they immediately loved them.

Large files have a 7" x 3/4" (179.80mm x 19.05mm) cutting surface. Overall length including the tapered tang is 9-5/8" (244.48mm). The 3-5/8" (92.07mm) easy-grip contoured handle allows safe, comfortable use. Threads inside the handle grip the file tang securely.

Small files are for more detailed shaping work: tight contours, corners and smaller surfaces. Each file has a 3-7/8" x 3/8" (98.43mm x 9.52mm) cutting surface, 7-7/8" (200.02mm) overall length, and the handle is rubber-coated for comfort.

I like them

They work great for me. They are sharp I use the little ones for carving rosewood.

Should've gotten it way before

Here's my input on both the Razor file and Dragon Hand Rasps: Recommended!

Love these files!

These are great - much more precision compared to rasps and you can be as aggressive or as gentle as you like. Since I got these my rasps are pretty much retired!

Makes a great cut, but blade slips

The saw itself cuts a great fine smooth line. But the sawblade keeps pulling out of the back that's attached to the handle (it's only pressed around the blade), even when I try not to use too much pressure on the wood. A couple of rivets might help. It's useful, but it can be bothersome.

They're good but different

These do not work like regular files and they take some getting used to. They are almost more like planes--they're sensitive to grain direction. Yet with care and practice they can quickly produce extrordinarily smooth surfaces. Be careful not to cut your fingers.

Only the one gripe!!

That is that I hadn't purchased these years ago. Amazing files, just watch your skin :)

Razor Files

The files seem to cut ok. It's the clogging of the teeth that seem to be a problem. Keep a wire brush handy to keep the teeth clean.

Razor file revelation!

Without a doubt, these are the best shaping files I have ever used. Recently, I had to replace a ebony saddle on a Loar spec Gibson F5 mandolin. I was able to rough in the blank and shape it to match the original saddle in half the time previously using standard files and rasps. Also, these files don't leave the "chatter marks" making final sanding/shaping a breeze. I also plan to get the smaller size versions on my next order.

I was amazed seeing how much wood can remove such a little tool.
If you're a woodworker you need it.

be careful

The razor files are great. I have just finished a classical guitar neck made from rock maple. This is a very hard timber to work. The files make it a lot easier when you do everything manually as I do.They are hard on the skin of your fingers so be aware of their sharpness. I would recommend them to any luthier who works exclusively by hand.
