Dragon Hand-cut Rasp

About This Item

Fast working, super-smooth cut.
Unequaled for neck shaping and contouring.

Dragon handcrafted steel rasps have become our first choice for quickly shaping instrument necks, solidbody guitar contours, custom jigs and clamping cauls.

Double-cut rasp has two different radii for quickly shaping a neck heel or the base of a peghead.

Dragon rasp teeth are individually hand-struck on both sides of each file, leaving a slightly random pattern that a machine-made rasp simply can't equal. This reduces chattering and "wandering," giving a smooth but aggressive cut.

Dragon rasps have the right shapes for contouring a variety of neck sizes.

Use the coarse rasp to quickly shape:
• Solidbody contours
• Necks and bridges
• Jigs and cauls

Follow with the fine rasp for:
• Final shaping
• Smoothing
• Softening corners

Large 10" long x 1-5/8" wide   (254mm x 41.28mm)
Small 6" long x 1-3/16" wide (152mm x 30.16mm)
Double-radius 7" long x 7/8" wide (178mm x 22.22mm)

Love them, all you said they would be. Would love to see a set that cuts in reverse. Thanks again.

No regrets. They carve fast and super consistent. Not overly aggressive like the Irwin rasp.

"My Pet Dragon's" - Dragon Hand-cut Rasps

In a word, wow! As with most luthiers, I hand shape all my guitar necks, tedious but rewarding. My former "go to" rasp probably should have been retired long ago. A recent neck of African mahogany (stringy stuff) prompted me to make a change. So it was with some trepidation, I purchased an assortment of the Dragon Hand-Cut Rasps. They do everything that they are supposed to do and more. Use the large to get busy roughing out shapes and transition to a fine as you close in on that perfect shape. The smalls work great around the heel area and the larges work well on the straightaways. Great tool, good investment!

I bought the large coarse file for neck work. I can not believe how well this thing works. Something tells me I will end up with all of them. Well worth the money..

The 10 inch Fine Dragon Hand cut Rasp is a phenomenal rasp; a serious "go to" tool for me. I've used the rasp on hard rock maple, ebony, rosewood and poplar; all with outstanding results. Shaping a neck is work, leveling an ebony bass fretboard is work and your gonna sweat. This rasp makes the sweating work rewarding. I would totally recommend this one.

Removes wood fast but very controlled. The teeth are close to each other and randomly spaced so you don't get the scoring like a regular rasp.

Great quality Rasp

I bought the large coarse rasp . Cuts smoothly and efficiently.I will buy more of these. I carved out the handle in the photo with the rasp. Online I found a video of someone heating the tapered tang with a blow torch and inserting it in the handle's round drilled hole. With a small hole drilled on the side to allow the smoke to escape, I could push the heated tang 3/8" deeper than where it would sit unheated. Fits snugly.

Most amazing tool I now own!

These files are the most beautiful tools I have ever seen. I had heard good about them, so I was expecting quite a bit from them, but even so I was completely amazed when I unwrapped them. The photo on the site doesn't give them the credit they deserve. They look obviously hand made, in that true "handmade quality" sense - a real work of art. I did not at all expect that - would recommend for everyone!

The photo I have uploaded was taken with my iPhone, so they are even more beautiful than I can show you :).

Happy customer from Denmark.

Expensive, but...

...you can mess around with cheaper tools and never get the same quality of result. Pretty much the only tools I need for final neck carving. The coarse one removes huge amounts of wood really quickly and the fine ones make detailed work a pleasure.

I've been using some cheep rasps I got for like $10 at a local hardware store for years now. After shredding through this last maple guitar neck worse than normal I decided it was time to buy a new rasp and reluctantly put out the money for the 2 large dragon rasps. I spent a lot of time thinking "why spend $50 on a rasp I can get for $10 at home depot". Well now I know. The course cut removes wood faster and leaves a smoother finish than those cheep rasps you can pick up anywhere. The smooth cut left a surface smoother than my second cut files! I'll be buying the dual radius rasps soon. Awesome product, well worth the money.
