Dragon Hand-cut Rasp

About This Item

Fast working, super-smooth cut.
Unequaled for neck shaping and contouring.

Dragon handcrafted steel rasps have become our first choice for quickly shaping instrument necks, solidbody guitar contours, custom jigs and clamping cauls.

Double-cut rasp has two different radii for quickly shaping a neck heel or the base of a peghead.

Dragon rasp teeth are individually hand-struck on both sides of each file, leaving a slightly random pattern that a machine-made rasp simply can't equal. This reduces chattering and "wandering," giving a smooth but aggressive cut.

Dragon rasps have the right shapes for contouring a variety of neck sizes.

Use the coarse rasp to quickly shape:
• Solidbody contours
• Necks and bridges
• Jigs and cauls

Follow with the fine rasp for:
• Final shaping
• Smoothing
• Softening corners

Large 10" long x 1-5/8" wide   (254mm x 41.28mm)
Small 6" long x 1-3/16" wide (152mm x 30.16mm)
Double-radius 7" long x 7/8" wide (178mm x 22.22mm)

Just the right tool for shaping necks. Makes me want them all, but they are a bit expensive.

Perfect for the jobs that other files can't do

By

This is my go-to tool for shaping. It removes wood quickly and cleanily. The best part is the narrow profile which allows me to get into places other files won't. I do a lot of Gamba style scrolls and this file is great for smoothing a final shaping the inside curves. Highly recommended.

Better than expected

The teeth are much finer and denser than I expected. I was able to take advantage of a 15% sale, so I had to pull the trigger!

Ukulele neck files

I've been wanting a good set of files for some time now and when these Dragon Files came up on sale I had to jump in. Although a bit more than I want to spend a good value on sale. I chose the 6" length as the larger one seemed a bit too big for my use. The files came well packaged, the oil and varnish has to be remove and handles attached. Over all a great set that leaves a fine finish and removes the wood faster then I thought they would. The handles I made out of Golf Club grips. Nice fit and very easy on the hands. Over all these are great files and I would recommend them to anyone wanting a smaller set.

Dragon Rasp

Have yet to use it on a specific task but worked it on a scrap chunk of Australian Gum and very smooth.Might throw in another star and order the small fine.--- Question---What is the coating on the rasp---should it be cleaned off---if so with what---then should the metal be protected?
The rest of my shaping tools are left just brushed clean with a file card.
Could not get a "Scrooz-on" to seat on the shoulder so used a size "D" Apex handle.

Response from StewMac

Thank you for your review. That is a lacquer finish applied to the rasp to prevent rusting of the file. It also helps to limit the file "loading up" when in use. We advise to keep it on, but if you want to remove it, you should be able to use a bit of acetone to strip that coating off.

Superb rasps

Bought the large course rasp for shaping necks. Removes material easily while leaving a very manageable finish, does not clog an the triangular double-sided shape give you lots of access/position options. Recommended.

Dragon Hand-Cut Rasp

This is an AWESOME Rasp! It's my tool of choice since I received it! Cuts and carves mahogany like butter. I even use it to shape my bridges. If I had a choice I'd order both the large and small Dragon Hand-Cut Rasp, but I have the Large and it provides the efficiency I need for sculpting and shaping necks to the Nth degree!

Dragon tooth file

The profile and fine teeth of this file will be great for shaping the curves in scrolls & tail pieces for my dulcimers. I didn't NEED it, but I'm glad I found it.

Japanese Fret Saw

By

As with my drum sander, I wish I had bought this Japanese fret saw a long time ago. Cutting "on the pull" is so much smoother and efficent than cutting "on the push". It will make cutting fret slots go in half the time and with much less work.

Best hand shaping tool ever

I can't build a guitar neck without these tools, I've been using mine for years and they are still sharp and I carve a lot of necks. I had a router jig for rough shaping the neck but I'm faster with these Wrasps now. I'm thinking of buying another set incase they stop selling them. In the top five tool I use in my shop.
