Dragon Hand-cut Rasp

About This Item

Fast working, super-smooth cut.
Unequaled for neck shaping and contouring.

Dragon handcrafted steel rasps have become our first choice for quickly shaping instrument necks, solidbody guitar contours, custom jigs and clamping cauls.

Double-cut rasp has two different radii for quickly shaping a neck heel or the base of a peghead.

Dragon rasp teeth are individually hand-struck on both sides of each file, leaving a slightly random pattern that a machine-made rasp simply can't equal. This reduces chattering and "wandering," giving a smooth but aggressive cut.

Dragon rasps have the right shapes for contouring a variety of neck sizes.

Use the coarse rasp to quickly shape:
• Solidbody contours
• Necks and bridges
• Jigs and cauls

Follow with the fine rasp for:
• Final shaping
• Smoothing
• Softening corners

Large 10" long x 1-5/8" wide   (254mm x 41.28mm)
Small 6" long x 1-3/16" wide (152mm x 30.16mm)
Double-radius 7" long x 7/8" wide (178mm x 22.22mm)

The right bite!

I have a favorite double ended and contoured Italian riffler [#33], and though I have bought and tried numerous other shaping tools, nothing was quite as satisfying as that little riffler, Wanting something a little larger, I ordered the coarse and fine cut Dragon rasps, in the small size; put handles on them the day they arrived and set to. Used them on hard/soft wood, horn and bone.
The size, profile and cut leave them very handy for most any benchwork, and the fine cut, while sufficiently hungry, is just tame enough to ease sanding, if required. Durability remains to be seen.
I'm not easily satisfied, but find that these tools are pretty much what I was looking for, at reasonable cost. I like!

Best rasp I've ever used!

This tool is amazing. Perfect for shaping a neck. The hand-struck teeth are amazingly sharp. It gives you surgical precision, and once you get the hang of it, you can create a neck and heel with a surprisingly smooth surface. It has great hand feel too. I made a comfortable mahogany handle for mine, and this rasp has instantly become my go-to neck carver. Or, anything else that requires rasp work.

"Long Rifle Stock Shaping"

Got the idea of using a "Japanese Hand Cut Rasp" from an old article I read on wood carving. Found them at StewMac and ordered three sizes and one more I'm waiting for. Can't believe how will they work, I used the coarse file to remove most of the wood (Hard curly Maple) and then the fine one to bring the finish shape to what I wanted before scraping and sanding. Great rasp for making necks

I've wanted one of these for a while. I mainly use a saw rasp to rough out a guitar neck but the heel never turns out the way I want it. This tool will do the trick. I used one of these when I built my first acoustic guitar with a luthier here in Chicago. I just received the small, coarse dragon rasp and tested on some mahogany. Works fantastic.

I have used the course Dragon for a couple of weeks in my gun stocking shop. It does well and seems well made. I needed a rasp that cuts quicker than the others on my shop and this rasp does just that. I am happy with the purchase.

Great Files

This series of files are the best I've ever used for shaping a carves item. They aggressively remove wood and leave a relativity clean surface for sanding. I not only use them for guitar necks but for many other wood working projects that require shaping and carving.
