Binding Tape

About This Item

First choice for binding work! High-tack adhesive and tough crepe backing make this the strongest paper tape we've found for securing bindings while the glue dries.

3/4" x 60-yard (19mm x 55-meter) roll.

Not recommended for use on vintage or delicate finishes.

Our binding tape has a strong adhesive—good for applying pressure, but be cautious about using tape on soft top woods like spruce. With soft woods, first stick our binding tape to a cotton t-shirt to give it less tack before applying it. This will help reduce the possibility of any damage when you go to remove it.

Once the glue is dry, remove any tape slowly and gently—pulling at an angle and lightly rubbing it with your index finger. Warming the tape will also help it lift away easily without pulling out wood fibers.

For more information, see our How to Install Bindings article.

Didn't this tape used to be brown?
"If you've used our binding tape in the past, you may recall that it used to be brown instead of orange. We carried this brown tape for many years and it became a favorite in shops across the world (including our own). So it took us by surprise when we learned that the factory which made the tape had shut its doors for good, and the beloved brown tape would no longer be available.

"After our efforts to persuade the manufacturer to continue production proved unsuccessful, the search began for a new tape that would live up to the standards set by the brown tape: a strong tack that doesn't leave a residue, a tough but flexible paper backing, and a thin adhesive that resists creeping under pressure. Our R&D team tested dozens of tapes of all different brands and colors, even trying a tape used by a local pizza shop to attach delivery receipts to their pizza boxes! Finally, after months of sourcing and testing options, we found the orange tape we're currently stocking. We've found it to work just as well as the old tape...if not better!"

This tape actually works. Very strong. Very tacky in a good way.

I have used several different tapes over time. None came close to this one. Great stuff!!

May need some work!

I thought I would try the new binding tape. It's a bit easier to work with than the old brown stuff. It has a bit more stretch to it and sticks well but I broke quite a few pieces while stretching it. This never happened with the old brown stuff.

Orange binding tape

This is great stuff! I used it to stick binding to a piece of spring steel for bending with a blanket-type bender. After heating to over 300 degrees and cooling, the tape peels cleanly with no residue.

If you have only ever used masking tape then this will be a huge step up. It is a very good strong tape and it doesn't pull up the grain of a spruce or cedar soundboard

I like it

I was hesitant to order when I saw that the binding tape had changed. Weren't we all?
Anyway, I have used the new orange tape and it worked great for me.

I had half a roll of the old style and used new and old to bind a couple of bodies.

One thing that was also a pleasant surprise was how much easier it was to remove the next morning.

Almost as good?

I really miss the old brown tape but if the manufacturer goes out of business what can you do. This new orange tape works quite well but is thinner than the old brown and somehow seems weaker. I have had no real failures with it but I still don't completely trust it... I guess I'll just have to get used to it.

OK, not great

This tape really didn't work very well. It just isn't sticky enough. And forget about pulling it off and re-sticking, which you pretty much have to do if you need to tighten the binding strips. I will just us gaffers tape or blue masking tape.
