ColorTone Tinted Aerosol Guitar Lacquer

Traditional finishes made simple! Ideal for touch-up work, or for finishing an entire instrument. Fast-drying and resistant to alcohol and water.

Formulated specifically for musical instruments. Tinted and sunbursted nitrocellulose lacquer finishes never go out of style. Now you can finish your instruments in beautiful traditional colors that enhance the wood grain, without complicated spray equipment.
13-ounce spray cans.

ColorTone® Tinted Aerosol Guitar Lacquer can be sprayed over smooth unfinished wood; over sanded basecoats of grain filler; over ColorTone nitrocellulose Sanding Sealer, and over ColorTone Stains. Spray additional coats of ColorTone Clear Aerosol Guitar Lacquer for a hard, durable finish with a deep gloss.

Aerosol spraying is an economical way for the beginner to apply a finish. Aerosols produce a slightly rougher surface than spray guns however, and more sanding of the clear topcoats may be needed for a level finished surface. Tinted coats should not be sanded.

Application Tips: We recommend spraying multiple thin coats, in a low humidity environment. Heavy-bodied Sanding Sealer (one coat equals two coats of lacquer) will seal stained or unstained wood before the color coats or clear topcoats are applied. At least one can of Sanding Sealer and 4-6 cans of lacquer will usually finish a complete guitar.

Use warm lacquer, not cold!
Pro shops spray heated lacquer because cold lacquer spatters, requiring extra sanding. You should warm up your aerosol lacquer too, simply soak them in a sink of warm tap water.

Our ColorTone Aerosol Finishing Kit is a great choice for the first-time instrument maker. It includes our easy-to-apply clear gloss aerosol finish with the best instruction book available!

Amber tint

By
(Customer's Reviews)

This is some great stuff... if you use it correctly. Warm the can in hot tap water and be sure to always clear the nozzle after use.

Spray the amber differently than other colors on a maple neck. Use it sparingly or it turns orange... one very light dusting coat. Spray your clear on the amber as soon as it's tacky and it will help blend the amber and even it out completely.

Great option for finishing without the expensive equipment!!

By
(Customer's Reviews)

I have used this product for refinishing necks and bodies. My most recent project was a sunburst using Vintage Amber for the base, Cherry Red and for the first inner ring and Red Mahogany for the edge, sides and back. Made sure to put the cans in hot water to bring up the temp first and it came out perfect. Followed up with Clear Coat and finishing with a wet sanding and buffing process. Looks like a custom finish. Great Product!!

Cherry Red Spray tint

By
(Customer's Reviews)

For the first time I tried the cherry red tinting lacquer. I have read this is a great product and I have to agree. The one draw back I had with the product is that the tip of the spray can does not have a pattern to disperse the product in a wide pattern. I ended up with light and dark streaks across the body of the guitar I was working on. After a repeated attempt and the same result I went back to the tried and true of mixing my own tints in a spray gun.

Don't let me hold you back from this product. With the tip it comes with it is great for bursts and detail work. Just don't try a whole body till they give us an optional tip that will give a wide spray pattern

I bought the Vintage Amber for a fretboard project, and it turned out........Unreal. I thought Aerosol cans were for cheap painting. I guess I thought wrong! An absolute Stew Mac WIN!

Tinted Amber Lacquer helps 'age' and touch up old necks

By
(Customer's Reviews)

I use the Stew Mac tinted Amber lacquer quite a bit in my shop. When the job's small, and I don't want to mix up a tinted batch of lacquer for a minor touch up, I reach for the Amber Tint Lacquer cans. With some patience and some knowledge, you can really do a great job on 'aged' Fender necks, or simply touching up an old guitar's finish that has darkened due to age. You control the amount of shading by the number of passes you make with the spray can, pretty foolproof.
