Natural Wood Bindings

About This Item

Beautiful hardwood bindings are a natural accent preferred by many contemporary luthiers.

Each unbent strip is approximately 0.080" thick, 0.250" tall and 33-1/2" long (2.03mm x 6.35mm x 850.90mm). The optional triple lamination is .010"/.020"/.010" white and black fiber.

For matching top purfling, choose our Violin Purfling Set.

Note: Cocobolo is a naturally oily wood. For best results, clean with acetone and glue with epoxy or super glue.

Beware Runnout

some of these bindings- especially the maple have really short grain and break easily when bending. the maple is pretty but not when it cracks every three inches.

First wood binding on Virgil Guitars! It's a bit tricky, but with patience, anything is possible.

Really good bindings!

By

Verified Buyer

I order my bindings from Stew-Mac when I don't have the wood that I need for certain jobs. The quality is excellent and I have never received bindings that are faulty, difficult to bend or had any problems that came up. I recently received some ebony material and it is the best! It has really nice jet black color and really even grain which makes for a nice even bend. I also know that if I do have a problem whether it be on my behalf or Stew-Mac's it will be resolved quickly. The service dept. is top notch. So when I am not making my own laminates and laminate bindings I know I have an excellent source for the best. Thank you Stew-Mac!

Ebony

I got the ebony as a contrast piece for a set of winding sticks. It's beautiful! Shipping was more than the wood, but it was worth it.

Bloodwood doesn't match purling

By

Got some bloodwood bindings and ordered the violin purfling to match, but the purfling on the bloodwood was fiber and the violin purfling was wood. Didn't match.

Nice figure

The maple ones I received were both the same colour and consistency of figure.

Nice Look

These binding strips are a great choice for a guitar project that you want to take a step up from plastic binding. The overall quality of these strips is high. I did have a strip or two that just wouldn't take a bend. But I won't let that stop me from ordering these again, it is wood after all, and we all know wood isn't perfect AND has a mind of it's own. Watch ou when you but two strips together that the black white black laminate matches up. Not all are the same! Overall great binding and clean

nicely machined bloodwood bindings, even color and pretty straight (unlike some I have purchased from other suppliers!)
