Oldie But Goodie Video!

Great Video! I knew before I bought this DVD that it was an "Old School" video from the 80's. This video still gives great information into the over-all techniques required to make an electric guitar. The quality of the video is great considering how old the original master tape is!

Very valuable info. From 1985, expect it to be dated.

I'm amazed by the number of people that ordered this after reading the description (or maybe not) and then complain that it's dated. I bought this in 1985 and still have the VHS copy of it. When I wear it out I will replace it with this DVD. Using this video and many others by Dan and his great columns in Guitar Player I learned how to properly repair and build guitars. I got out of the field for some time and still enjoy refreshing with his old videos and updated DVDs. If you want good valuable information (however dated or not crystal clear) this video is probably a great starting place. The guitar in the photo was built with the knowledge gathered from Dan and has played many live shows and recorded many tracks. The guitar has been through more than most should be and still keeps on going. If you're looking for a DVD quality recording this may not be your first choice but if you're looking for a good foundation from one of the best around, this is a great place to start. I wish they would convert more of their old videos to DVD. Some have not survived in VHS.

Very old converted from video

The DVD although has lots of info on it is very dated and obviously converted from video. The colour is poor the sound is atrocious and althoughit is informative it is so irritating to watch and listen too. This truly does need updating guys. Thankyou for replacing it guys but , it's not that the DVD didn't work it's just that it was very very poor quality . Even if the sound was run through a noise filter it would help considerably to remove some of the dreadful hiss .

D A T E D ! ! ! ! !

The principles are there, but the video filming, production-quality, and dated-techniques are horrible by todays standards.

I think $19.95 would be a fair asking-price for this video. Unless StewMac lowers the price, buy it used somewhere else!

I recommend StewMac to completly reshoot this video in order to have a better-quality of video and incorporate modern techniques. I would pay $49.95 for a video like that!

Needs a huge update!

Good, but it needs a huge update on some of the techniques applied on the DVD.

Good product

overall a good product, excellent with the strat blueprint, that´s very handy.
Of coarse it´s obvious that the DVD is slightly out dated, Dan looks a bit younger, but all in all, a good buy.

Excellent information - Terrible quality

This is an excellent video from an informational and helpful standpoint. Dan does a really great job of pointing out the finer points of solid body making in a easy to understand and professional manner. But this was made in 1985 so the quality of the video and noise of the audio is really bad. It'll get the job done though, highly recommended. I wish it could be re-done and re issued with modern equipment.
