Discover helpful tools and see proper soldering techniques; learn how your guitar's electronic components work, and watch how to install shielding for noise-free sound. You'll get lots of great tips along the way. 1-hour.

Hot Rod the video please guys!!

I bought this video and couldnt believe how poor the quality of the recorded material was. I was transported to the 80s!!, this was film on Beta or VHS!!How Stew Mac cant make a more modern version? using new electronic components? Cant believe it!!

VHS vs DVD

I own the original VHS and when I bought it (early 90's)I felt that it was a great video information wise. Brings you back when Dan was a young buck (me too...ouch). But, all in all, the information and techniques discussed and taught are top notch and stuff that every guitar tech needs to know. I know that Dan didn't get into a lot of the super custom stuff like 21 tone Jimmy Page rigs, Stevie Ray's #1 wiring mods, etc. but, that wasn't the intentions of this video. Dan did give you some great "hot rod" tips - mainly for the beginners in this field. IMO - great price for the information and instruction given. Now...a friend of mine bought the DVD 'cause he doesn't have a VHS player to view my copy (don't think he knows what a VHS player is either...he thought my LP's were really big CD's and asked about the CD player for them?!?!?!?!?!). I did view some of the DVD with him and the quality is lacking a bit (actually...a lot). I would expect a better video transferance from the VHS format to the DVD format from StewMac. It's still good information and it is taught very well. I give it only 3 stars because of the quality. It's actually 3.75 stars but that isn't available to me to give.

This vid stinks.....

Poor quality, gave me a head ache watching it. Information on this video is not worth $30. Save your money! Sorry Stewmac - first time I have been this disapointed.

1142-DVD

This DVD has obviously been copied from an ancient video tape. The picture quality is extremely poor. The information is quite basic and can be found in any book or on the internet. There is some good information on basic soldering technique, but you don't need this DVD for that. Get a good book on the subject and you get all the schematics on paper. This DVD doesn't stand up to the usually very high standard of Dan Erlewine's products.

Good Start

Great video. However, the tips herein are great for beginners mostly. Dan is very thorough going through the steps. Only gripe: old video quality...felt like I was watching VHS again.

Great Starting Point

After viewing the DVD. I had some good take-aways that I will use in my custom wiring job. The instructions that were given are clear for a person with some prior experience. If you never done electrical work you may need more information in a book format to go-along with this DVD. Thank You for giving good value in this product.
