Spray Finishing

I have many years experience in finishing cabinets and I'm no stranger to the tools and processes involved. If you are new to finishing, this info will help make you more comfortable.

You get a considerable amount of good information from this DVD, although the quality of the video is quite poor, and Dan & Don are very boring instructors.

I think this should be included with the Finishing Book instead of being a separate purchase. Without the book I was pretty lost as to all of the steps. After reading the book it was very helpful to see everything in action. As usual, Dan gives tips only an experienced pro would know, and I'm sure that will save me from several mistakes! And YES the quality is poor.

Normally I don't care too much but in this instance it was difficult to see the differences in the types of finishes and the results of using different techniques, which was disappointing. Seriously, how hard would it be to reshoot this???!! People are walking around with phones that can shoot HD video for pete's sake. Dan and Don are too good to have their teaching diminished by something so easily correctable.

Don and Dan do a marvelous job of covering all aspects of basic finishing. I had them on VHS and wore them out so I got them on DVD now. Don did the job on the tele and the sunburst on the guild perfectly. Dan is a Luthiery Hero if mine as much as Dickey Betts and Johnny Winter are to my playing. Nice blond on the strat Dan!!!!!

These videos are very informative and perfect for someone like me who wants to get into finishing. The videos were transferred straight from the VHS version, complete with tracking lines that ran across the screen in the beginning (they do not appear anywhere else). Color tweeking should have been done considering this is a video on finishing. Chapter selection for forward-skipping would have been nice too. The second video has better quality compare to the first one

The DVD was just what I needed. It answered many of my ?s and seeing something done after you've read about it just makes it better. Another great Stew Mac product!

Excellent resource. Would suggest more about novice or beginners using aerosols rather than more professional air guns.

This wasn't what I was hoping for but still had good info on it. After watching it I realized that all the info that was useful could of been put onto one DVD.

I bought this DVD thinking it will cover spraying techniques from the base coat until finish coats for bare wood and newly built guitar bodies and necks ...wrong! it covered a re-spray of an existing sunburst finish for a repair job. And it wasn't the color of sunburst that I was interested in. The luthier knew his stuff but lacked any skill presenting it. I was very disappointed in this DVD. The quality of this video was poor and kinda boring. For $25 and another $11 for shipping, I was counting on quality and a professionally shot video....wrong again! I buy a lot of stuff from SteMac and as expensive as they are on almost everything they carry, I still buy from them. I wish they would have updated their instruction videos and books that are better quality with more detailed color photos in the books. They seem to sell stuff that was written or filmed 15 to 20 years ago. As much as guitar building for the novice has grown in recent years, you would think that StewMac would keep up with the trend and give us the tools (figuratively speaking) to learn these techniques quicker and better. I've seen more informative videos on youtube on Sunburst techniques. I wish someone would harness all that knowledge and put it into on great DVD for the rest of us to purchase.
