Maintenance & Setup for Electric Guitars and Basses Vol. 2

"This is not a recap of volume one - it features different guitars, basses, setups, tremolos, and neat modifications. This DVD should be important to players and experienced repair techs alike."—Dan

The focus of this DVD
Moving beyond what's covered in Volume 1, here are more maintenance and setup tips.

Information covered
  • Cleaning your electric guitar's finish
  • Correct ways to install strings
  • Fender "10-Step Strat®" Setup (complete vintage Strat tremolo setup and factory specs)
  • Cleaning, deburring, and lubricating a Strat bridge
  • Ibanez Jem "Steve Vai" setup (complete Floyd Rose tremolo setup and factory specs
  • Danelectro modifications. The new Danos are great - these mods and adjustments make them better! • G&L ASAT bass: another "hard-to-adjust" neck
  • Making and installing a full-sized neck pocket shim for a bolt-on neck guitar (G&L bass)
  • Replacing shrunken plastic tuner buttons
  • Fender 5-string bass setup (learn to clamp a back-bow into an up-bowed neck)

Training UGH!

More basic than I expected. It would have helped if the description had told the level of training it is giving. Showing a large number minutes of guitarist and how they want their guitar setup is a little much.

Worth buying the set.

As usual, Mr. Erlewine takes you through many different points at a good pace. Very easy to watch. I've only recently started working on my guitars. Now when friends pick them up always they comment about the great setup and ask where I had it done. It is fun to be able to say 'I did it myself':) I could not have done it with out the tools and training I've found at Stewart-Mac Donald.

Finally took the plunge

Well I bought the DVD's and studied the books and finally got the nerve to try my own fret job. After buying the right tools, fret bender etc., I am the proud owner of a kit Tele with the frets I really like. If you take your time and do your homework Dan steers you in the right direction...couldn't be happier with the results

valuable tips

This DVD is great for beginner luthiers, which are afraid to start doing more expensive and rare guitars. Dan shows you everything with lots of patience and nice talking.

Great DVD

would have given 5 stars, but did not discuss the floyd rose saddle numbering system and how the radius is built into the saddles. At $50, should have covered this. Overall, happy with the purchase.

Fantastic!!!

I love watching Dan, he reminds me allot of Norm Abrams (New Yankee Workshop) with his easy going demeanor, clear concise instructions and of coarse his master craftsmanship and attention to detail! I think these two DVD's are a must have for any electric guitar or Bass owner, but I'm glad most don't get them cause it will mean money to me in the near future. :) I actually own these two DVD's Dan's book How to make your electric guitar play great, and the Guitar Player Repair Guide and will recommend them all. Yes there will be some overlap but there are times when the books cover something better than the DVD's and vice verse. After getting them watch them over and over you will find that you will learn something new each time!!!

Great for novice or shop

I always like Dan's books. He is full of tips learned from his years of experience. Being able to see him put these techniques in action on a video is the best.

Worth the cost

Dan Erlewine takes his years of knowledge and applies them to these DVD lessons.
