Here's an outstanding opportunity to view the step-by-step creation of a fine archtop jazz guitar. In this impressive 4-DVD set, veteran luthier Frank Finocchio demonstrates the tooling and techniques that produce his renowned instruments. Highlights include top and back carving procedures, by machine and by hand, plus Frank's alternate method for steam-forming and joining solid arched plates, without carving.

Frank Finocchio has been making fine guitars for over 25 years. A well-known instructor in the art of lutherie, he has also produced the comprehensive DVD set Acoustic Guitar Making for steel-string guitar.

Shows nothing about carving plates

I must say I was truly disappointed with this DVD. I was expecting a more in depth study of carving the top and back plates. Frank basically puts the top and back in a copy carver. Which is completely out of reach for any small builder.

Doesn't go into any depth about the shape etc., compared to the Benedetto series it's shot a little better but the steam bending plates is just cutting corners for anyone truly wanting to hone their craft. Watching him bend the sides is painful. He cracks them in several places. Where as in the Benedetto series he makes it look easy. It's obvious who the better craftsman is. Overall some of the other discs are ok but the reason I bought this was for the carving aspects.
