Dan Erlewine's Neck Resets

I found this neck reset series very interesting. It is well done. I learned a lot.

This video gave me the confidence to proceed with my first neck reset, and to deal with the issues that came up with it. While it's a good video, it would be nice if there were some notes included, such as a list of the products used (especially the one for removing blush). Also, this is a burned dvd, not a pressed one, so the shelf life might be reduced. Ignoring these quibbles, the content is excellent, and I learned a lot.

I learned to reset necks from Bryan at his excellent school in Big Rapids, Michigan. (Nothing at all wrong with Dan giving Bryan's school a short plug in the video.) The video allows me to review the process and it also covers a few challenges that might arise. Well worth having.

Mr.Erlewine's books and all the free info is a large help.

Pretty good, basic video for neck resetting but lacks info on some important areas. When the finish gets blushed on a Gibson, the repairman says, "Don't worry about that, we'll take care of it later." When he does wipe it off with "denatured alcohol," he doesn't tell you that this has to be done IMMEDIATELY, not "later."

I also had wished to see a demonstration of the top deflection gauge that I had purchased but there was none on the DVD. There was something said about it being "impossible" to steam the neck off of Asian made guitars glued together with epoxy, but a tech at Stewart MacDonald told me just the opposite over the phone, that they could be steamed apart but it would take longer.

I actually did steam apart an old Yamaha just fine that had been epoxied. Took four steam holes and more time, but it steamed apart eventually and quite clean.

What about Gibson set-neck electric guitars? I missed this subject completely! I actually bought this DVD because of that. All in all this DVD is helpful - but not for me...

It would have taken me years of destroying guitars to learn this on my own. Now I don't have to ruin any. Also, now I know why my old yamaha can be used to row a canoe and come out better than ever! it's all in the glue..

In my opinion this is the best and easiest to understand DVD on the area of neck resets. It has helped me through about half a dozen resets, the latest as a Martin D20-12 string. Brian Galloup is a great teacher and covers all the bases to help you through it. Great product. Thanks Dan!!

I would use another example of neck reset scenario instead of the "advertisement" of that guitar maker school in the middle of the DVD...
Besides this, it is an excellent tutorial which demystify the holy grail of neck reset
