Waverly Ukulele Friction Pegs

Read 1 Review   |   Write a Review

In the early 1900s the ukulele was king. Waverly uke pegs bring back a simple but innovative non-geared design that tuned many fine instruments: the knob screw adjusts the tension, and an internal coil spring provides smoothness and slip-resistance. Unsurpassed by standard friction tuners, they combine precision-machined quality with an authentic vintage look. Simply the finest traditional friction pegs you can install on your ukulele. Nickel-plated brass, set of 4.

Specs
Waverly Ukulele Friction Pegs are ideal for restoring vintage instruments, and will work properly in pegholes with diameters between 7/32" and 1/4" (5.56mm to 6.35mm). For new builds, we recommend drilling a 3/16" (5mm) peghole diameter.

For appearance and proper function, pegholes should be chamfered for the top washer and the rear housing. We have just the right bit for cutting this chamfer.

Peghead thickness can vary from 5/16" to 9/16" (7.94mm to 14.29mm).

Waverly tuners offer modern precision with vintage style. Proudly made in Bozeman, Montana USA

To be sure these tuners fit your instrument, compare your existing machines and peghole dimensions to our listed specs to help determine the best replacement.

Welcome Addition

These new friction tuners are a welcome addition for ukulele builders. They are the only ones I know of with a spring that provides friction pressure, making getting just the right amount for each string possible. Stewmac suggests also buying their bridge pin counter sink bit, but it's not the best for the job. What's required is a 100 degree c.s. bit for the top and 60 degree c.s. bit for the back of the head stock. (The Stewmac bit appears to be 82°). Using the right bits will give full contact between the tuner and the hole.
