Machined brass gear case and shafts, brass ring gear, steel pinion gears and sealed lubrication ensure durability for long life. The handsome removeable pearlescent plastic knobs have adjustable tension screws for the right feel.

Five-Star pegs fit standard 3/8" (10.00mm) diameter pegholes, and include threaded hex bushings with peghead washers. They fit 7/16" to 3/4" (11.11mm to 19.05mm) peghead thicknesses.

Our Five-Star 5th String Peg is also available.

5 Star Machines

Purchased as an upgrade on a low end Banjo with guitar style machines.

Other than drilling for the new hardware installation was straight forward and relatively easy.

The quality of the 5-star is surprisingly good with only a a touch of 'notchy gearing' at every other revolution. Not noticeable once the tension adjustment was set.

Holds tune perfectly and added a touch of class to the old Deering goodtime. The Knobs are molded plastic with a visible ridge but look authentic enough as is.

Pearlescent and or Ivoroid replacement knobs are available if the stock plastic pearl don't suit your needs.

A classic upgrade for a fun little practice banjo. I'd recommend the 5-star tuners if the higher quality machines are out of reach of your budget.

Little things count

The price of this tuner set is high in relation to it's quality. the tentioning screw loosened after only a few turns. The slot in the screw is rather shallow. Eventualy the constant tightening of the screw will wear it out. the plastic buttons are unatractive and have a sharp casting ridge.

Tuning Pegs

I have used these machines on banjos since the early 70's and I have always been pleased with their price and quality. I would reccomend them to anyone.
