Mandolin Truss Rod

I usually make my own curved mandolin truss rods but decided to try this one. I used my table saw to rout the neck a little deeper than called for in the directions. I drilled the hole for the anchor lug a little deeper too.

I placed the rod into the routed slot, inside a soda straw, and then glued a carbon fiber rod on top of the truss rod. I followed this by a thin piece of wood which allowed me to sand the top of the neck without having to sand the carbon fiber rod. Sanding the carbon fiber can be hazardous if you breath the dust.

I haven't finished the mandolin yet but believe that I will have a very sturdy neck.

The truss rod is good quality and as advertised. The instructions were great and easy to understand. The largest problem was jigging up the tapered neck to route the slot down the center. I did note that the rod came out of the anchor lug slightly off center, about .008", but this small flaw caused no problems. I would definitely recommend this product.
