Piloted Router Bit for Binding

These special cutters are designed for routing precise binding channels, and have a pilot extension for uniform routing depth. Carbide tips stay sharp longer than steel bits. Small diameter makes them ideal for tight curves.

Piloted Router Bit

This router bit took all the hassle and guess work out of preparation for binding installation. Great product.

Deep marks

I used it for building 3 les paul replica (mahogany and walnut). After sanded the sides smooth, I've made the binding channel on the lowest speed possible. The bit leaves deep marks, sometimes burned in. I won't use it anymore, be careful with that.

a dynamite mini router bit.

I bought this bit to cut new channels, or clean old channels, on gibson style guitars. It works perfectly on fingerboards or bodies for that purpose. The tiny mark left by the pilot tip comes out in finish sanding. Cutting binding channels is a job for a Dremmel sized tool, not an industrial router, so I'd like to see more of these type bits. I'd especially like to see a piloted bit for the "stepped" laminated bindings seen on customs. Especially if one is building or restoring one of those bound headstocks.

Just the job

Very good bit for doing those awkward ledges on small instruments or in confined areas.

binding router

Great idea here, but I think it could use a tweak. While the bit does a good job of cutting the channel in very tight turns, it leaves a mark where the pilot guide comes in contact with the side of the instrument. It's even visible (very faintly) in the product photo. If it were possible to modify the bit by adding a free rolling pilot, that would be fantastic.
