Great For Amateur Techs!

I'm not a professional guitar tech; I just enjoy mantaining my own guitars. THIS has very quickly become my most important tool. Using a traditional straightedge, with the limited surface area of the frets, I'm unsure whether I'm seeing a truly straight neck or if I'm being thrown by irregular frets. With the Notched Straightedge, I'm 100% certain every time because the tool is resting right on the fingerboard, with more surface to read. I can then use a regular straightedge along the frets to find any highs or lows. My only issue is that the tool's edges are relatively sharp, so be careful handling it or you may scrape some finish off. Thank you StewMac for this great product!

Amazing tool

This is easily the best tool in my tool box.I instantly know,no guess work, how much relief I have without having to hold onto it as it is free standing. I am really happy that it is able to read both long & short scale in one tool. It was expensive but absolutely worth every penny. I love it!

Pro Tool

This is a beefy piece of steel -- stainless -- not the aluminum junk online some guy cranks out on his basement CNC machine. If you want to set neck relief accurately, you have to measure from the fretboard, not the tops of the frets. This is the right tool for the job.

Just arrived and already in use....

The straight edge just arrived in perfect time for me to use it to slay a charging Rhino. I love the weight and stability. I didn't expect that. So much better than the straight edge I've been using all this time.

worth buying

This is another tool worth having in your stable of straight-edges. It's totally worth the money and can be very helpful in certain situations. The only problem is that is starts at the 2nd fret, not the 1st. Problems at the 1st fret can be a drag. Maybe Stew-Mac can change the ones made in the future and this tool would be most amazing then! I'd buy another one if they did that.

Perfect Solution

It's surprisingly difficult to establish the straightness of the fingerboard, once fretted, UNLESS you have one of these. Tells you what the root cause of neck warp is, so that you can apply the right correction. If the board is flat, then the frets need work. If the board isn't, then you need to figure out a strategy for getting it flat. Dressing the frets alone probably isn't going to solve the underlying problem. This tool is an invaluable solution to a tricky problem.

A few suggestions...

A very useful tool for obvious reasons, mines seen plenty of use. However, it would be nice to have one that ends before the neck to body joint on acoustics to eliminate tongue rise or fall from neck evaluation. Also i can imagine a need for a notched straightedge for mandolins, etc..
