6" Steel Rule

Since i'm not from the US of A i'm not used to your inches, I like my millimeters better. Since i went and bought myself a stewmac D-kit and everything is measured in inches (fractions of inches at that) i found this very valuable. Inches on one side and mm on the other.

A definite and absolute requirement if you setup guitars. Should have gotten it years ago.

Must have tool for string instrument players. Helps on acoustics to find right action, tone and if nut or saddle needs work. Should be electric guitar case mandate!

I got tired of eyeballing stuff. My luthier suggested this. Very, very happy - can now set guitars up to factory spec without guesswork, then tweak as I see fit.

I recently tackeled setting my guitar up (tuning, intonation, matching radius of saddles to fretboard, setting string vs. spring tension, and floating the standard Fender bridge by 1 whole tone). I used this particular steel ruler during the process above for setting Hi/Lo E-string heights above the fretboard and then distance between strings and standard single-coil pickups. Not the easiest to do with my bi-focals, but I managed to read the markings for 64ths and was quite satisfied with the end results. The ruler worked good for me and will be used for many more setups I expect.

I use this rule for everything, don't know how I got along without it.

Or two or three, these are incredibly helpful and I probably use this more than any other one tool. It's really easy to think you can live without one, but trust me they come in real handy.

Basically with these rulers you get what you pay for. They are heavy, large and perfect for luthiere work. I highly recommend these rulers.
