Developed right here in Stewart-MacDonald's shops, the gauge features a progressive string height scale: simply slide it across the frets until the correct measurement appears under the string. It's quicker to read than any ruler, and it stays parallel to the fingerboard (much better than holding a ruler's end against a rounded fret and hoping you're at a right angle). The string height markers are graduated from .010" to .140".
The back of the gauge has a handy chart for converting measurements from fractions to decimals to millimeters, in 1/64" increments.
The String Action Gauge is made of durable stainless steel with etched markings, and fits right in your pocket.
Tip: Use the gauge to set router depth, instead of a shop ruler. It sits solidly on your router base, with the scale right where you need it.

Measuring in thousandths is great. No more 'three-and-a-half-64ths' or '3/32 plus one of those little lines.' This gauge measures in ways that regular rulers can't. |

It's amazing! I use it every day for everything I'd be lost without it! I used a six-inch scale for the past twelve or thirteen years, but now I don't use that much anymore. |

I just received my String Action Gauge yesterday. I had no idea just what a difference a tool like this would make. It’s made fast guitars even faster. It has paid for itself in the first day already. Thanks a million for developing this little wonder! |
