These files work quickly to level frets or fingerboards, leaving a smooth finish.

Each file is 1" wide with a comfortable hardwood handle. The 6" length is for general use, and the 3" length is for spot leveling.

The fret leveling files have single-cut teeth with a steeper angle to eliminate "chatter." They cut faster and smoother than most fret leveling files we've used, they work quickly, and they're great for dressing and beveling fret ends.

The fingerboard leveler is a double-cut file for ebony, rosewood and pearl inlays. Despite its rough appearance, it leaves a smooth finish.

Essential for fretting
The #0862 Fret Leveling File is one of seven tools included in our Essential Fretting Tool Kit, a compilation of tools you'll need for the fundamentals of fret work. Kit also includes our book, Fretwork Step By Step by Erick Coleman with Dan Erlewine.

Works on stainless frets, too!
All of our tools are suitable for use on stainless-steel fretwire, with the exception of our Fret Tang Nippers and Fret Cutters. Modern stainless-steel fretwire is known to be harder than the traditional nickel-silver blends, but our own shop experience indicates the wire does not cause premature wear of files or sandpapers.

Awesome

I dont usually do this, but these files made short work of a Stainless Steel fret board I completed. I went from spending weeks trying to get my boards flat and even to hours. It not not only cleaned out the burs but leveled every fret in minutes. It is a God Send and worth every nickle you spend, just in the time savings.

Sweet

Always dubious of hype as we all are, I'm sure. Bought the 6 inch file and it's good. Know how box store files skip and chatter? A good file doesn't do that - even on metal. This little guy is aggressive, doesn't skip, and doesn't load up like cheap files. Don't think I'll level frets with it though, most likely will eat them too fast. But it's great for fret beveling and any other need to get meat off before you sand to a smooth finish. Can't go wrong with this guy. Prices are high at Stew's and some are ridiculous, but most of the items I find are superior to my jitters when I try them and glad I sprang for them.

Fingerboard Leveling File

I only own the fingerboard leveling file, but it is amazing! The smoothest cutting file I have ever used. Perfect for leveling after inlay.

Fret Leveler, 6"

Very qualitative tool, good for straightening of many materials. Take care, is very aggressive with frets, cut deeply!

A Great Idea

A bit too coarse for frets for my personal taste. These files are pretty aggressive and can take frets down quickly. If Stew Mac made diamond files in different grits like these, I'd probably buy the whole set! Or you could send me a set for the idea. =]

Must Have!

These tools save time on fret leveling but be careful they eat fret wire fast!
