A little kit for a kick start!

I decided to give this kit a try and, seriously, this kit is an essential for any shop! A very great time saver when you used to check the action, relief and so on with feeler gauges, rulers and a capo! The quality of the tools is incredible, and the accuracy is there! Maybe it costs a little more than the good old method, but every guitars that will pass in your shop will need some adjustment. So, this kit is one of the best investment to be made at first!

A must have

This little set might seem expensive but it is really high quality gear and a must have for anyone doing set-ups.

essential tools

The straight edge is nice and hefty and straight. The radius gauges are nice and solid with clean edges, but are still light and thin enough to maneuver under strings. Stamped radius markings on the handles are clear and won't rub off. The string action gauge is indispensable! So much better than trying to shove feeler gauges under the strings or using a hardware store ruler. The instructions are OK... easy to understand but maybe a little too basic. I almost knocked a star off for the sticker shock - $90 for a few pieces of metal?! - but the quality and usefulness are there. The radius gauges don't come on a key ring or loop, so plan ahead and get something to keep them together. (I used an easy to open steel cable key ring I had lying around.)

Basic Setup Kit

Excellent!! Very useful tools. Not cheap, but very good quality. Did a setup on my Tele the day my tools came in the mail. Too bad the fret rocker isn't included in this set.

Essential

Having done all my training in a pro workshop, tools were always on hand. This kit gives me everything i need to be able to work mobile without lugging huge amounts of tools around.

Great tools to have!

I am an amateur guitar player, mostly preferring electric. I have a strat, a Gibson ES 137, and Epiphone Genesis, and my 1976 Takamine acoustic. I found the straight edge to be way helpful for deciding whether or not a neck needs fussing with. My visual inspection and measuring string height at the 8th fret and such is just not the same-not as accurate. The string height measuring tools is very useful and essential to set up the guitar. It is easy to use and comes with good instructions. The under-string -radius device was only needed in the Fender size (9.5), since I only used it for adjusting the individual saddle heights(which only the Fender has). Overall these are a must-have if you want to do your own set ups. Excellent quality, by the way.

The right tools for the job

I am not a pro guitar builder or setup tech but that is exactly why I bought the Stewart-McDonald Basic Setup Kit. It gave me everything I needed to check the neck, set neck relief, adjust string action, match the set the string radius to match my neck radius and actually wind up with a guitar that plays with no guessing a long the way. The tools are first rate in terms of quality and the rectangular string gauge/height gauge is a wondcer to work with. It makes all of this so simple but very accurate. It is tools like this, with quality and good price that keep me coming back to Stewart-McDonald!
