Our unique Dual-grit Diamond Fret File is two files in one, featuring an angled steel insert with 150 and 300-grit industrial diamond-coated concave cutting surfaces for crowning frets. Switching from one grit to the other is quick and easy; simply unsnap the file from the handle, turn the file around, and snap it in place again. The bent file shape is designed to give you extra clearance over the guitar body for shaping the higher frets. Diamond-coated cutting surfaces work on the forward and backward stroke without chattering, giving you better control for smoothly rounding the tops of the frets. The shape of the handle and 5-1/2" overall length make the tool comfortable to hold, efficient, and easy to control.

Diamond fret files are the best way to recrown your frets! Unlike traditional fret files, diamond files cut in both directions, they don't chatter or leave chatter marks, and the fret is smoother after crowning. These files are being used by repair shops and major manufacturers all around the world.

Our diamond fret files have concave cutting edges, one for medium and small fret wires and one for wide fretwire. Each edge is electro-coated with micro industrial diamonds. These super-tough abrasive surfaces round the frets more smoothly than standard toothed files, for cleaner filing without chatter marks. Because the diamond particles cut on the forward and backward strokes, you get better control over your work and the job goes much faster.

We offer three designs of diamond fret crowning files, each in two different grits. Diamond fret files are available in the traditional Diamond Fret File, the curved Offset Diamond Fret File, and the unique Dual-grit Diamond Fret File. If you're use to traditional fret files, you'll probably be most comfortable with the Diamond Fret File, but you may find the curved design of the Dual-grit Diamond Fret File may allow you to work more comfortably with less arm, wrist, and hand fatigue.

Dual-grit Diamond Fret File is also excellent for working on the frets in the upper registers of acoustic and set-neck electric guitars. They virtually eliminate the chances of "gouging the top".

Works on stainless frets, too!
All of our tools are suitable for use on stainless-steel fretwire, with the exception of our Fret Tang Nippers and Fret Cutters. Modern stainless-steel fretwire is known to be harder than the traditional nickel-silver blends, but our own shop experience indicates the wire does not cause premature wear of files or sandpapers.

Dual Grit Fret File

My first fret leveling ever attempted by me. This tool had the frets re capped in record time. It made the job very easy to undertake.

fantastic

Works awesome. I'm not very experienced with fret work, but have been a machinist for several years, so filing all sorts of stuff is second nature. Easy to use. Easily cleans out with a brass wire brush. Worth the money.

Quick, consistent results.

Such an improvement over the old toothed files! Much less polishing required after crowning. Great value for money.

Set of 3 Diamond Fret Files

I use these at work and at a guess they will crown several hundred entire fretboards before needing to be replaced!
It took me a while to get used to the shape, and every now again the files fall out of the handle, but the lighter weight and smaller size is less fatiguing to my arms than the other diamond files and when you do production fretwork this is very important!
I can work at high-speed with these files and have little fear of slipping off the fret, when all goes to plan crowning can be done in just a few minutes.
I have just purchased a set of all 3 for home use and expect them to last me a very long time!
Well worth the price.
Thanks StewMac :)

Where was this years ago...

The perfect tool for my fret cleaning needs. I have used regular flat files in the past and had to really concetrate not to get "chatter" and to get a good clean level crown. Diamond-coated is absolutely THE WAY to go for filing anything. The tool fits well in my hand, and the two grits offered are more than adequate to get the frets down and rounded to a smooth feel. I have cleaned my mandolin, my jazz bass, & my D-28 frets, and have renewed the feel of each. Highly recommended.

diamond file

the file is to light, and there is no heft to the file, also slips out of one's hand. I would not recomend this file to anyone.

great tool

Having tried a number of other crowning files, I keep coming back to this one, easiest to use and leaves a better surface on the frets requiring less work at scratch removal, cuts both ways as well

Outstanding Tool

This little file is wonderful. The way the steel is angled is perfect. It made it very easy for me to take care of all the frets on the Tele style guitar I'm building. The diamond-coated cutting areas take material off quite nicely. I would readily recommend this tool to anyone.

Great File

A little narrower than the double sided, beveled file. If you are using a true medium fret wire - this is the one you want for the best crown.

Gives the proper shape

These take the guesswork out of crowning. Always be sure to mask off your freatboard first. The consistent crown is a must for the best feel of a guitar neck. The diamond cuts both ways and doesn't leave chatter marks. Dual grits mean fast first passes and a smoother finish pass for less sanding later.
