Essential for fretting
The #4491 Double-edge Fret File is one of seven tools included in our Essential Fretting Tool Kit, a compilation of tools you'll need for the fundamentals of fret work. Kit also includes our book, Fretwork Step By Step by Erick Coleman with Dan Erlewine.

Works on stainless frets, too!
All of our tools are suitable for use on stainless-steel fretwire, with the exception of our Fret Tang Nippers and Fret Cutters. Modern stainless-steel fretwire is known to be harder than the traditional nickel-silver blends, but our own shop experience indicates the wire does not cause premature wear of files or sandpapers.

I was pleasantly surprised

I learned to crown frets with a triangle file and bought these several years ago when I read a few of the reviews. After several years of use I couldn't be happier. I can't imagine not having them in the shop and I haven't touched a triangle file in ages. I have found them to be real time savers. Great job StewMac

Good file

I used this file on my first attempt at leveling and dressing frets. The file worked great and was much easier than a triangle file. Recommend it.

Works like a charm

At first glance, it looks like a regular file but you work with the edges and not the flat part. It's excellent for cleaning up fret ends. Highly recommended.

Good

It did its job but it took me a long time to re-crown my leveled frets. Maybe the diamond files are better but they are very expensive.

Works well.

Works as expected. Leaves a little chatter that is easily polished off with sand paper and steel wool.
