Sheffield steel blade.
Make no mistake: this is NOT a standard hardware megamart backsaw! We started with a blade of legendary corrosion-resistant Sheffield steel, and specified .023" width to match our fretwire. We insisted on precision pull-cut teeth, to greatly reduce blade flex and jamming in harder fingerboard woods. Lastly, we designed an easy to use, removable clear acrylic depth stop. It slides up or down, with thumbscrews to precisely set any fret slot depth.

And one more thing: this saw works seamlessly with our Fret Slotting Miter Box.

The acrylic depth guide can be adjusted to expose as much as 1/4" of the blade, and is removable for cutting off the ends of a blank fingerboard. It's also sold separately.

Overall length 15-1/4" (387.35mm)
Cutting length 10" (254mm)
Blade depth 1-3/4" (44.45mm)

Cut accurate 90-degree slots when you use the saw with our Fret Slotting Miter Box. Add a Fret Scale Template and you'll never miscalculate your fret positions.

Need help calculating your fret locations?
Our online fret scale calculator can calculate any scale length you want to use. It will also give you accurate measurements for locating the bridge on your instrument.

Good Saw

I bought this saw a year ago and as an amateur luthier I have slotted about 4 fretboards so far. It has a great feel to it and it does the job very well, but only after having modified it a little. Straight out of the box I did a few test cuts with it and found the slots were about 0.025" wide, causing the fretwire to be just a wee bit loose for my tastes, so I honed the saw blade down by laying it on a hard flat surface and rubbing a fine sharpening stone along the side of the teeth for a few passes on each side. Now the fret slots are 0.023" which is perfect for the fretwire.

Good tool. I had to glue handle back to it on very first use but it's not a big deal. Very precise cuts!

great saw

Saw cuts perfect and smooth. I do recommend getting the fret slot miter box because it is very hard to consistently hold perfectly straight slots without it.

Time Saver!

I first used a coping saw to cut my frets and I managed to screw a few up. This saw has easily cut my fretting time in half! Using it with a miter box makes it a very accurate fretting saw.

Good saw, cheap handle.

This saw is exactly what I needed. cuts fine slots that fits perfectly! on the third fretboard the handle came apart while sawing, and I had to drill through the handle and the saw to fit a nail through both of them. wrapped around the hole with masking tape. Other than that it works just fine.

Well made

Got the job done, if a little pricey. I made my own depth stop from stuff lying around the shop. Love the holes in the blade for that purpose...and the hanging hole. What can I say...small things make me happy.

the best.

I used a japanese saw without reinforced back before this. When I used this saw at a colleagues shop, I knew I had to get one myself. You can dress the teeth in your own shop, they are not hardened like the japanese saws !

Fret slotting saw

Before buying this saw I was using a coping saw and my slots were always close to being to wide to hold the fret wire and the depth of cut was always a little different from slot to slot. With this saw each slot is an equal depth and the perfect width. This saw is a bargain when you are building necks for a truly playable guitar.

Great tool, just be careful

You just want to be careful in 2 things. First make a guide cut to start the final cut (I use the .010 saw) and use that as a guide. The other thing is that you must keep your saw straight, not lean it around or you will widen your slot.... If you pay attention to these things your flet slot will be really good
