Foam polishing pads are perfect for applying polishing compounds, like our ColorTone Polishing Compounds. The gentle polishing action helps avoid swirl marks, fine scratches and burn-through, leaving a beautiful mirror-gloss surface.

For the small shop or casual builder, this is a great way to get factory-quality finishes without tedious hand polishing or expensive buffing equipment. Larger well-equipped shops find foam pads handy for getting into tight areas for fast spot refinishing, too. Each pad has a 1/4" arbor—you can use it in a drill press or variable-speed hand drill.

"Hourglass and cone-shaped pads are great for getting into guitar cutaways and hard-to-reach contours. I find a use for them all!"
—Erick Coleman, repairman and StewMac tech advisor

Important: A separate pad should be used for each grade of polishing compound, to avoid adding scratches to the finish. Apply the compounds in sequence, from coarse to fine grades.

Who knew these little pads can make such a difference ?

I used a couple of these on the higher grade of polishes, but in hind sight I would reccomend using these on all the grades of polish since they are awesome to use and make the task SO much easier....it's worth it!

Foam Polishing Pads

I have two buffers that I use when detailing cars but I needed something to get into tight places on guitars. These pads are perfect...stick them on a drill and you're good to go.

SOOOOOOO GREAT!

My guitars tend to have odd shapes and tricky recesses, and using my homemade buffing arbor had proven insufficient for getting any of the tricky spots. I finally bought a group of these with the 4 buffing compounds and was SO pleased with the results. And pretty much NO reb-through on the edges, because the sponge breaks into a spray of yellow powder when it catches or runs an edge, as opposed to the violence with which a cloth buffing wheel will drag and burn through.

Note: I found the mid-sized pad wanted to come off at one point (I might have been overdoing it a little with pressure), but put some hot stuff thin superglue on it and it will hold for a real long time after. I'm going to experiment with making my own pads out of kitchen sponges and adhering them to the chucks.

Great!

I've done 7 complete refinish jobs with the same set of pads with no issues at all. I do try different ways of doing things once on awhile and have found that I get better results if I add a little water to the pad after applying polishing compound and work it into the pad by hand. If the foam is coming off of the plastic you either got a bad one or you're pressing the pad into the guitar WAY too hard.
