Knob & Bushing Puller

Schatten design • Made in Canada
A "two-in-one" tool, this simple device lets you apply steady, controlled upward pressure to safely remove stubborn guitar control knobs. It also includes hardware for extracting Gibson, Schaller or Gotoh bridge and tailpiece post bushings, without damage to the guitar.

The tool's housing has a rubberized base to help protect the guitar's finish. All necessary fittings are included.

Using the Knob and Bushing Puller

Updated 03/08

We received this tip from pal David Jones:
The Knob and Bushing Puller tool works MUCH better if you cut away the housing, so that it looks like the drawing. I had to cut mine in order to remove a volume knob that was almost right on top of a bridge. As long as you don't cut away too much sidewall, the tool remains stable. Two main advantages of the modification are:

1. You can make sure you've got the puller positioned correctly, and see what you're doing as the knob comes off, AND, the biggie:

2. You no longer have to turn (and turn…) the wingnut until the extractor clears the bottom of the housing to get your knob back—a slow operation if you're removing a set of four Gibson-style volume and tone knobs.

A slot 90 degrees wide by 2" tall has worked well for me, and has been plenty for any knob I've gone after.

Dan Erlewine adds: It's an easy modification that takes only minutes to do. My mod was quick and dirty: I drilled a series of holes in the side and sawed up to them with an X-Acto® saw. I never got around to filing the edges smooth, so mine looks a little rough!
