Make that crack disappear!

PowerKnife

Read 1 Review   |   Write a Review

Fitting a wooden splint into a cracked soundboard is a lot easier now, thanks to the PowerKnife, the latest time-saving tool from Don MacRostie and our research team. The old way of trimming a crack with a hand knife is tedious — the PowerKnife makes it fast and precise. Make that crack disappear, with results so clean your customer will wonder how you did it.

Repair shops: this tool pays for itself with your first job. You can make $100 or more each time you repair a cracked soundboard.

Instructions
The PowerKnife works with the Foredom® reciprocating handpiece and your Foredom flexible-shaft power tool.

The PowerKnife cleans, chisels, and tapers the crack, giving you accurate control of the width and the tapered depth of the cut. The jackhammer action of the chisel provides forward force for perfect directional control. A 5 oz. tube of lubricant is supplied with the Foredom handpiece; replacement tubes are available separately.

• Use the PowerKnife to trim the crack to uniform width and tapered depth
• Prepare a splint with matching taper on your tablesaw
• Fit and glue the splint into the widened crack
• Trim the splint flush, and touch-up the finish later to match the surrounding wood

Complete instructions are included for easily preparing and splinting a crack.

I love this tool!

I've made my own knives from chisels, both push and pull types. I had to be so very carefull not to slip and to keep the grove constant the length of the crack. This tool make this job fun...with a few practice runs on scrape you can quickly get the hang of it. I see the Foredom reciprocating handpiece has been discontinued so I purchased the Wecheer WE330 Carving head. It’s a few dollars more but it comes with 5 other chisels. You may have to grind the mounting tang on the power knife slightly to fit the Wecheer collet but this head fits the foredom flex drive and works great.
