Pot Cleaning Cap

I never noticed it doesn't fit Alpha pots (my fault) so ended-up making my own dowel, tube version. Still, worth having around for pots that will fit the tool.

Who hasn't heard a static crackle when turning the pots on an old guitar or amp, new ones too. Chances are, that it's a dirty pot that may only need a quick cleaning to function smoothly. The "Pot Cleaning Cap" is an essential tool that directs your DeOxit or other cleaner right where it's needed, inside the pot housing on the contacts around the shaft. The cap directs the cleaning solution cleanly, instead of spraying it uselessly all over the outside of your components. I used the cap immediately after receiving it and was able to clean up the sound of an old Teisco Amp that did nothing but crackle. Now volume change is smooth, and tone changes noiselessly. This is certainly an easy to use tool that any musician needs for a quick cleaning of their knobs.

I was mildly skeptical when I ordered this - because trying to get cleaner down the shaft of a pot never works! But this is fantastic! It works great for 3/8 x 32 pots but it works surprisingly well with other sizes as well (messier of course). I use it on every amp and effects pedal I service (put it somewhere safe though because it's easy to lose on a messy bench!).

I used this "Pot Cleaning Cap" on a Mesa Boogie V-twin pedal that had a stubbornly scratchy "Volume" pot. I removed all of the knobs, grabbed a can of DeOxit (highly recommended) and went to work. Long story short, all of the pot are now as quiet as new and turn a bit more smoothly now. When you spray the DeOxit, and plug the top hole of the cap, you can feel the pressure build inside the cap as it tries to lift your finger off of it. Just five or six "pulses" and you're good. An excellent, simplistic tool that targets the cleaner right where you need it. I love it.

This little tool is very practical and enables doing a clean work. Highly recommendable.
