The unique Hacklinger gauge measures the thickness range of a carved-top instrument in fully assembled playing condition. The gauge aids external graduation of unfinished carved-top instruments, and lets you read thicknesses on vintage instruments without fear of damage.
This gauge is a precision instrument, accurate to 0.1mm, and calibrated for thicknesses up to 8mm.
See details below
A small plastic-coated counter magnet inside the instrument is attracted by a magnet in the base of the gauge. Pull up the calibrated spring until a "click" indicates magnet separation, and read the thickness in millimeters on the scale. The counter magnet follows the movement of the gauge, even over braces up to 20mm thick!
The gauge is calibrated for thicknesses up to 8mm, is accurate to 0.1mm (.004"), and is usable in any position.
