Fast, efficient clamping

Go-bar Clamping System

Gluing guitar soundboards, backs and braces can require a multitude of standard clamps, but many luthiers have discovered a faster and equally efficient way to get the job done: Go-bar clamping. We offer the special components and instructions you need to easily build your own Go-bar clamping system, including custom-radiused convex dishes for perfect arching of a dreadnought soundboard and back.

i-4733 Updated 01/04

Hardware Kit #4733 parts list
(4) Threaded rod 1/2" x 36"
(4) Propeller T-nut, 1/2"
(4) 1" Support tube, 29-1/2"
(8) Aluminum end washer
(4) Flat washer, 1/2"
(4) Hex nut, 1/2"

You will also need
(6) Laminated plywood 2' x 2' x 3/4"
Concave wooden dish for front and back, #4731 and 4732
Titebond wood glue #0620

Go-bar deck assembly
From a sheet of 3/4" plywood, cut six pieces, each 2 feet x 2 feet. Stack and glue two of the pieces together, and stack and glue the other four together (the extra thickness is required to give the go-bar deck base sufficient stiffness).

Drill a 1/2"-diameter hole in each corner, 1" from each edge. Assemble the parts from the hardware kit as shown in the “exploded” diagram below.

Use wooden blocks to raise our #4731 concave wooden soundboard dish, or our #4732 concave back dish, to the desired height above the base of the deck. Our flexible #4734 24" fiberglass go-bars should be used for clamping, as shown above.
