They're the sharpest fine-cut woodworking files we've ever used. They cut quickly and aggressively, but leave the wood surprisingly smooth. You'll discover they're real time-savers for shaping solidbodies, custom jigs and clamping cauls, too.

A new manufacturing process is the key to Razor File efficiency. Rows of semi-circular plane-like teeth are chemically etched to extreme sharpness, and diagonal grooves are milled at strategic intervals to minimize clogging. Available flat or curved, each steel Razor File has "safe" smooth sides (the flat file cuts on both faces). Early samples of these files were quickly snapped up by our R&D guys for testing in their own shops, and they immediately loved them.

Large files have a 7" x 3/4" (179.80mm x 19.05mm) cutting surface. Overall length including the tapered tang is 9-5/8" (244.48mm). The 3-5/8" (92.07mm) easy-grip contoured handle allows safe, comfortable use. Threads inside the handle grip the file tang securely.

Small files are for more detailed shaping work: tight contours, corners and smaller surfaces. Each file has a 3-7/8" x 3/8" (98.43mm x 9.52mm) cutting surface, 7-7/8" (200.02mm) overall length, and the handle is rubber-coated for comfort.

Razor File

These files are amazing. They remove a lot of wood quickly, and the result requires much less sanding than with a coarse rasp. But be careful. They remove a lot of wood quickly.

Razor Files

I'm just thinking that I like the old files better.I feel the Razor Files dig in too much. But it could be just me and I will keep working at it.These D-Bows do have a skinny neck.

razor files

These files are real fun. They are like hundreds of mini scrapers, very efficient and heavy duty. I use them for carving a heel or roughing a nut or saddle and for trimming a fingerboard to the neck before glueing.

Great files

Just purchased the razor-files, they are great! Can do quick and subtle shaping. They have a tendency to clog a little but with a blow of compressed air it is easy to remove. Work also treat on bone and plastics!

Super sharp?

Very excited to receive my Razor File set from StewMac (2 files complete with handles). These sure were sharp to start with and could easily take skin off if not handled thoughtfully. But after using the flat file to finish a mahogany uke neck, the keen edge of the file quickly dulled. The neck had already been rough-shaped (it is a StweMac tenor kit), so I was surprised that such light work with this soft wood had such an effect on the file. I'm sure I'll get much more use from the file - I just didn't expect it to dull so quickly, especially considering the price!
