Spool Clamps

Don't know how I managed to get away with using woodworking clamps in the past. These spool clamps give a nice even pressure. Suggest that if you're considering buying these get 3 sets so that you have plenty spare if you have an awkward piece to work on.

As with previous Stew-Mac products that I've purchased, the quality of these spool clamps is superb. A while back I made the mistake of purchasing a few cam clamps that were made overseas. They were cheaply constructed and virtually un-servicable. Keep up the good quality of your products Stew-mac. I can highly recommend your clamps.

I always found the amount of time it took to prepare and then tighten up these clamps whilst racing against drying glue was too long and made it one of the three jobs in building a guitar that I felt I could do without....the other two being sanding and removing binding tape! i decided to give the alternative, being cam clamps a go and far prefer this option for gluing tops and bottoms to the guitar sides.

Light, strong, effective and cheap, is what you want in clamps. Luthiers never have enough clamps and I just added a swack of the little ones (to replace worn old ones) for doing violin seam repair clamping; where they promptly paid for themselves. The bigger ones are great for cello and guitar seem repair clamping.

An amazingly simple tool, but quite effective. Could be a little bigger in diameter, but as they are, they work fine.

They arrived on time, were of an excellent quality and exactly as described.
I was going to make two dozen of these, but these were actually cheaper in the long run!

I have been a luthier since 1962. I recently had to remove and repair the top of a 1935 Tonk Bros. large body guitar (X-brace and bridge plate). I had not purchased spool clamps because I use rubber bands. Only the spools would work in this case. They worked very well but you need 4 sets, large size. It is always nice to have enough. G.M.
