Our production manager Todd Sams has tried every kind of kerfing clamp and says, "I requested that we sell these because they’re stronger than other spring clamps or clothespins." Todd uses them on all his acoustic guitar builds. Set of 10 clamps.

  • Each clamp is 2" long, 1/2" wide, and opens to 11/16" (50.8mm x 12.7mm, opens to 17.46mm).
  • We recommend one clamp every 1 to 2 inches; approximately 50 to 60 for gluing the back or front kerfing on a 000 or Dreadnought guitar.
  • Jaws fit over angled kerfing perfectly, and will work with most curved/reverse kerfing, too.
  • Strong grip keeps its tension and won't twist like cheaper versions.

Have you tried similar clamps and the protective rubber tip eventually slides off? Our clamps have a little hole punched into metal tip that allows the rubber to sink in when they're dipped. This ensures the tip stays on. (Todd swears by it!)

Lots of luthiers use modified clothespins wrapped with rubberbands (to make them stronger). This works for a little while, but within a couple of builds the rubber rots. Or they go flying across the room and you need to make another one. Invest in these mini metal clamps, and you'll have a reliable grip on your kerfing for years.

Great, but...

They're too strong and let dents in the wood. I solved the problem using them with the 1274 rubber binding band to protect the wood. That way they do a great job!!

Not quite...

These are well made little clamps, and I use them frequently. Unfortunately, they are not well suited for their intended use as "kerf clamps". As others have noted, the clamps dent the wood. I'd definitely buy more if the jaw were redesigned.

Clamps leave crimp marks in lining and sides

I bought 60 of these clamps and used them for the first time this weekend to install traditional mahagony kerfed lining into mahogany sides. When I removed them, I discovered almost all the clamps had left dents in the surface of the lining and in the outside surface of the sides. The problem is that the plastic coating over the tips does not extend far enough back from the tips and leaves two bare metal edges that dig into the wood under clamping pressure. I will not be using them again. A waste of $60. It's a shame because the clamps are easy to use, they are the right size, and have the right clamping pressure.

Work great

No messing with rubberbands that break and render themselves useless. Holds nicely and looks good as an extra bonus!

Easy to use but...

I bought these because I had trouble with the rubberband loaded clothespins reaching the bottom part of the kerfing when gluing it into place. These kerf clamps work great. They have just the right amount of tension and are easy to set. However, you have to be careful with setting them too deeply. The insides of the tongues have very sharp edges that can easily mar your wood. I think this design flaw can easily be remedied by making the rubberized protective shields at the tips larger. They also work great for gluing braces.

Kerf Clamps

I have been using these clamps for over 25 years now. they are definitely better than clothespins and perfect for clamping kerfing in place. I just figured everyone used them.
