Our production manager Todd Sams has tried every kind of kerfing clamp and says, "I requested that we sell these because they’re stronger than other spring clamps or clothespins." Todd uses them on all his acoustic guitar builds. Set of 10 clamps.
See details below
Each clamp is 2" long, 1/2" wide, and opens to 11/16" (50.8mm x 12.7mm, opens to 17.46mm).
We recommend one clamp every 1 to 2 inches; approximately 50 to 60 for gluing the back or front kerfing on a 000 or Dreadnought guitar.
Jaws fit over angled kerfing perfectly, and will work with most curved/reverse kerfing, too.
Strong grip keeps its tension and won't twist like cheaper versions.
Have you tried similar clamps and the protective rubber tip eventually slides off? Our clamps have a little hole punched into metal tip that allows the rubber to sink in when they're dipped. This ensures the tip stays on. (Todd swears by it!)
Lots of luthiers use modified clothespins wrapped with rubberbands (to make them stronger). This works for a little while, but within a couple of builds the rubber rots. Or they go flying across the room and you need to make another one. Invest in these mini metal clamps, and you'll have a reliable grip on your kerfing for years.
