Guitar Repair Magnets

These seriously strong, neodymium boride magnets have hundreds of repair and building uses around the shop. They're 1/8" (3.18mm) thick, nickel-plated, and are available individually in 1/2" (12.70mm) and 1" (25.40mm) diameters and with a countersunk hole for attachment to tools or clamping cauls. See our instructions for using them in your repair work.

For building or repairing guitar pickups, you can use a pair of 1" (25.40mm) magnets to magnetize a pickup or change its polarity. Single-coil Kit instructions tell you how.

Instructions
These magnets can be attached to (or inlaid in) clamping cauls for easy alignment with steel clamp jaws — a great help when you're lining up patches for crack reinforcement, or regluing a bridge. An exterior magnet will move a second magnet inside the guitar where your arm won't reach: wrap the interior magnet in a damp cloth to help clean glue squeeze-out, or attach self-adhesive sandpaper to remove dried glue. Use protective masking paper on the outside of the instrument when dragging a magnet over it.

Warning: These are seriously strong magnets!
These magnets are made of the rare-earth metal neodymium boride. This is listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the World's Most Magnetic Substance. It is 10 times stronger than modern loudspeaker ceramic magnets.

Use extreme care when handling these magnets since they can magnetize, degauss, or re-polarize any ferrous or magnetic material — including electric guitar pickups! Keep away from magnetic storage media such as floppy discs, cassette and video tapes, as well as pacemakers, computers, CRTs, TVs and watches.

KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN If more than one magnet is swallowed, the magnets can attach to each other and cause intestinal perforation or blockage, which can be fatal.
