Fast, efficient clamping

Go-bar Clamping System

Gluing guitar soundboards, backs and braces can require a multitude of standard clamps, but many luthiers have discovered a faster and equally efficient way to get the job done: Go-bar clamping. We offer the special components and instructions you need to easily build your own Go-bar clamping system, including custom-radiused convex dishes for perfect arching of a dreadnought soundboard and back.

Instructions

"Gluing braces on tops and backs used to be a slow process, with lots of glue-up sessions. One session used to take me two hours, but with go-bars it's less than twenty minutes."
— Todd Sams manages StewMac's production shop

Go-bar clamping is utilized by many luthiers for gluing guitar bracing and for gluing soundboards and backs. Strong, flexible fiberglass Go-bars are placed under tension between the top of the Go-bar Deck and the wood to be clamped. This achieves uniform pressure more quickly than with standard clamps.

Our concave dishes are made of rigid 1" (25.40mm) thick MDF (medium density fiberboard), and are carved using a computer-controlled process for accuracy.

Our Go-bar Clamping System consists of:
• Concave 28-foot (8534.40mm) radius dish for dreadnought soundboards
• Concave 20-foot (6096.00mm) radius dish for dreadnought backs
• Hardware kit (steel upright posts with hardware and assembly instructions)
• Flexible fiberglass Go-bars (sold individually) 24" x 1/2" x 5/16" (609.60mm x 12.70mm x 7.94mm)

You provide the plywood top and base.
