It works great, but maybe some wing nuts are needed.
I just replaced one of those plastic bridges on a '64 Epiphone Caballero and these bolts made getting the intonation perfect before I glued the new one on. I reckon this must be the most useful bit of kit for the least money in the entire Stewmac catalogue.
Worked great on the kit I built
Simple and useful things for strapping the bridge down before gluing and testing its position. I'm always impressed when drills make a straight hole especially in a screw!
these nifty little bolts enabled me to position my bridge prior to finishing. I imagine I'll use them when it comes time to glue it down as well. Great idea!
These are just the thing for certain bridge repair and gluing operations. I smiled recently when I read on some forum that Stew Mac mostly sells "gadgets that hobbyists like to fill their shops with." I have found that items such as these bolts improve my work, both in speed and quality. All the R&D has been done for us by Stew Mac and I have saved a ton of time just buying what is already available instead of trying to reinvent the wheel myself.
The guitar that we built at Kent Everett's "The Art Of Guitar" construction class, in October of this year, was actually strung up using the Acoustic Bridge Bolts before the finish was applied. They secured the bridge to the top with ease and we were able to bring the guitar to pitch and play it! This is truly a great invention. They can also be used to secure the bridge in place during glue-up.
I use two of these for bridge re-glues. They keep the bridge from slipping and provide clamping strength used along with regular c-clamps. They do break after a lot of use but work great for me.
These bolts allowed me to secure the bridge and string up my new guitar before finishing. This ensures that any changes required for tone can be done before the finishing. Only problem is, once strung up you don't want to stop playing the guitar.
This system allows you also to lock the bridge in position while gluing avoiding it to move while clamping.
