Tortoloid Dreadnought Pickguard

Now self-adhesive!
Tortoloid is a handsome material developed by luthier Mario Proulx, using poured resins and dyes to reproduce the color and 3-dimensional depth of antique Hawskbill tortoise shell (antique guitar picks were used for sampling the colors).

Dark brown in color, it has semi-transparent amber areas that intensify the color of the soundboard to complement your guitar's appearance. Tortoloid will add a vintage touch to your guitar.

Each Tortoloid pickguard is individually made. Like natural shell, no two have exactly the same pattern. The shape is right, too: authentic 1930s Dreadnought.

Dimensions: Approximately 7" x 3-13/16" x .025" (177.80mm x 96.84mm x 0.64mm), with 2-3/8" (60.32mm) radius at the soundhole. The edges are gracefully smoothed; no beveling needed. The highly durable material is .030" thin, flexible, resists shrinkage and comes prepared with 3M adhesive.

Cutting your own pickguard shape? See Tortoloid Pickguard Material, available in four vintage patterns.

Nice Pickguard

Good looking pickguard. It makes my D35 stand out from the crowd. I had to do a little trimming on it to get it to match up to the rossette, but it was no big deal at all. I just shaved it with a razor blade untill it fit.

Beautiful

I thought this pricey, too, but it makes my Recording King RD-10 look great. Many others "notice" it and have to comment. I would definitely buy this again.

Pick Guard

Good quality and it looks great on my guitar but I don't think its worth $29. Next time, I'll buy some raw stock and make my own.

I Love the Tortoloid Look

I've been looking for a pickguard for my new Eastman E10D since they don't come with one. I looked at several guitars, browsed the internet stores, and read blogs before I decided what to go with. So many pickguards have the pattern printed on the surface. With this material, you can still see the grain of the wood through the pickguard.
I was worried that a pickguard might dampen the sound, so I wanted to go with a thin material. The Tortoloid didn't affect it. The pickguard was easy to install with the 3M double sided adhesive. Just take your time trimming to fit the pickguard (I used a razor blade) and placing it on your guitar - you get one shot to get it correct. I got it where I wanted it and taped down one edge with blue painters tape, then tilted it up and removed the backing from the 3M adhesive.

Perfect

I ordered this to replace a really wierd pickguard on my Recording King RD 327 adi top guitar. Fit perfectly and looks great. My luthier here in Nashville said it was a simple task. Top shows thru well and it looks great PLUS the guitar sounds much better. Yippee!!!

Absolutely gorgeous

Absolutely gorgeous, the perfect pickguard for my custom Scott McNeill OM. Love the warm look, natural feel and the beveled edges. Installation with the StewMac Pickguard Adhesive Sheet was a bit fiddly. Would have vastly preferred the pickguard had this adhesive pre-applied.

Tortoloid Pickguard

Woww. Really cool. Just the thing for my Gibson L4A. It looked bare without the pickguard. and along with the stewmac adhesive, did the job perfectly. Very easy to work with, I had to trim the sound hole diameter but it was not hard to have it look like a bought one.

Outstanding Pickguard!

I purchased one of the Tortoloid Dreadnought Pickguards as a replacement for the original pickguard on my Martin Dreadnought. Installation was a snap using one of the Pickguard Adhesive Sheets from StewMac. The fit was perfect. The new Tortoloid Pickguard looks fantastic on my guitar.
