Flatten warped pickguards

Excellent product. Particularly if you run across a a warped pickguard on a vintage guitar. I have a vintage Ventura lawsuit hummingbird 12 string whose pg was domed out. I carefully removed it and cleaned the back and carefully cleaned and resealed the area on the guitar with nitro lacquer. Solvents can be used but never on the face of the pickguard! (lacquer thinner/naptha etc. spot check first!) Then I placed the pickguard in boiled hot water until it softened enough to re-flatten. Then pressed it between 2 pieces of wood and weighted it till cooled. Then applied the adhesive sheet peeling back a starting edge and then continuing to apply while securing as I peeled the cover sheet and then trimmed to shape. Then removed the other cover and placed the pickguard in place and pressed down to remove any remaining convex shape or doming. I weighted it down for a while just for my own security, I doubt this was needed. The finished job was as good as new. Lots of other uses too.

Pretty good stuff.

There are no instructions. 1st time users: read some more of these reviews for pointers on avoiding bubbles & wrinkles. Getting a great result without these helpful tips would've been difficult. Thanks to the great StewMac reviewers for the thoughtful pointers!

Highly suggested!

Using this for my Strats has made a definite improvement on background noise. Guitars are almost dead silent with it. Notice a few little pieces on pickguard & guitar top helping to create a positive connection between the two. This creates one large completely shielded compartment & don't forget to use shieded wiring from volume pot to output jack (I hadn't done this step yet in pic).

good sticky stuff

This stuff is awsome. After shaping my tortoloid pickguard, I placed it on the adhesive sheet & cut it to match the pickguard. I placed it on the guitar and it looks awsome. This stuff really holds. Thanks Stew Mac

Easy to work with

I have a classical with cedar top that I lent to a student. It returned with a Willie Nelson hole. I used the self adhesive pick guard sheet and shaped it sort of like a flamenco golpeador (tap plate). Easy to use, easy to trim, and I like the result. Picture is slightly distorted and shows flash glare.

More than one purpose.

These have been helpful in more than just it's recommended application. For example holding parts in place in order to align drilling templates and etc. Also, good for putting up posters around the shop's walls.

I don't use anything else anymore for fastening pickguards. I use the left over pieces for attaching wood, etc. to jigs, clamps and alike. Just be sure to reduce the tackiness on your pants or shirt first or you'll have trouble getting it off.

Big help

My luthier here in Nashville used this to put a pick guard on one of my Recording Kings. Did the job perfectly.
