Mother-of-pearl Nut

I bought a pearl nut blank for my banjo. After the nut arrived, I realized that I needed a nut length of 1.280 instead of 1.250 (short by 1/32"). I wish the pearl nut blanks were longer!!

The material itself it great. Couldn't have asked for a nicer piece of MOP. I wish it was available in wider pieces for guitar and uke nuts. It is just a little too narrow at 1.25".

I have used MOP on my guitars and ukes for the last 2 years. MOP is strong, files well and looks absolutely fantastic- it really brings something special to your instruments. Watch for fault lines in the material while working it, sand to 1200 then buff.

I bought one of these for my newly refurbished old Ibanez Mando from the 70s (an F-5 copy), but haven't used it yet. I am surprised that it sounds like bone. I have not yet used it as I was tolled by another repairer, a bluegrass mandolinist, that it would sound too thin and annoying. I'll whack it in and see how it goes. Cheers mate. SB

Good stuff. Works about the same as bone but polishes up brighter and classier.
