At last! A precision tool for establishing string heights!
The Nut Slotting Gauge was designed by Don MacRostie here in our R & D shop. It features an easy to read dial indicator with adjustable zero point, and it's super accurate to .001". The machined brass base fits over the strings to rest on the fingerboard, and it works with most acoustic and electric guitars, mandolins and banjos. A larger brass base is machined to fit bass string spacings. Instructions are included.

A properly cut nut is the most difficult, yet most important part of a setup. When I saw photos of the nut slotting gauge I felt it was a luxury tool. After trying it though, I'm convinced it's a necessity. I'm able to get the nut slot depths cut to previously impossible tolerances. Now I can document these measurements for future reference and adjust my specs should the need arise. Great job on a great tool. |

I had to write to congratulate you on the nut gauge that you designed. It's a fantastic tool! No more guessing, sorta, kinda, string heights. I finally know for sure where things are at.
